How come masculine men in the 1950s didn't lift at all?

Most alpha masculine type of men these days have some form of muscle and physical fitness. Many like The Rock are roided to the gills. Back in those days guys were like 150lbs or on perpetual dad bod mode with a diet of liquor and cigarettes and were seen as "real men" in their communities. These days you NEED to lift to even generate respect.

While "lifting" was generally unknown, most of these folks would have been fresh out of the army in which resistance training did, in fact, occur. Lifting weights was rare, but push ups and pull ups were not, and mandatory for a lot of these guys lives.
And of course these folks would often play sports, because vidya was not a thing so you had to get games from somewhere, and sports are a thing you can do anywhere with simple equipment.

Nah, it's that even though folks knew about resistance training the specifics of how we approach it these days was just not there, so people did, as you say, rope climbing and pullups.
What I will say is that back in high school we really had gym days, where we would go to the (for a high school) well stocked school gym and fuck around on the machines (nobody ever touched the barbells), but in these times basically nothing was taught to us, we just fucked around a bit and went for our next class. This ain't right, this was a good chance for some real instruction that was squandered for no real purpose.

Exactly, "muh schools are preparing kids for war!" was the reason nobody was able to teach you how to exercise properly. Instead we got sports ball classes and nobody knows how to do even basic dumbbell or barbell exercises safely.

Standards of masculinity/femininity reflect the times. Who would have thought it?

He's masculine because he has a broodmother and his successful DNA copy hugging his leg.

Today, you're masculine if you clear the standards of the collective female social media hivemind---if you're tall and have a strong jawline. If you have that going for you, then not only will women worship you for being the masculine ideal, beta men on reddit and IST sulk around and worship you too.

Maybe a thousand years ago you were masculine if you were a hard worker and provided enough to sustain yourself and your parents. It all depends on the times, but the constant is materialistic question: "how can I be the most valuable asset for my tribe/community?".

My grandfather (82) said people in his days did body exercise without weights
He says he used to do 80 push-ups
My grandfather is a fat piece of shit today but he has photos to prove it
He looked like Arnold Schwarzenegger's weaker but still impressive brother
I keep one of my grandpa's pictures as fit inspiration

Being masculine and looking masculine are two different things.
A flaming gay can be jacked as fuck and look masculine without actually being masculine.

food was free from a lot of the chemical shit that became common later, and most meals were prepared from scratch.

How do you avoid chemicals/estrogen? I already got a water filter, eat meat, move around, have good posture, and do physical shit. This is the final piece of the puzzle.

The decline of men is largely due to microplastics that are in everything.

Its funny because youd think it was easier now. Zoomie males are the faggiest most effeminate and contrarian generation, literally painful and obnoxious to be around. You wouldn’t have to be very masculine to look good by comparison. All youd have to do is take care of yourself and not be an insufferable gay and people, including girls, would like you. Its so easy but you fags make it so hard on yourselves, like nofap is gonna give you magic virgin powers or something.

bro people in the 50s looked like shit, the only thing they had going for them was being thin because food was so much different.
This is John Wayne at his physical peak. We are talking a movie star known for his masculinity at the peak of his physical appearance, lifting and eating like a movie star. The shit you just posted as OP image is a commercial. It's the image of a perfect life which never existed. Google up "pictures 1950s" and you will realize men were baby-faced skellies and nothing more. No real muscle or body shape.
