How did people back in the day get buff without counting macros, drinking protein shakes, proper form exercises, etc.

How did people back in the day get buff without counting macros, drinking protein shakes, proper form exercises, etc.
And I don't mean professional bodybuilders, but regular people like farmers etc.
Even looking through photos of my own grand and great grandparents (not picrel), who weren't farmers but academics, and they were pretty big and ripped
Is it just a matter of people back then being surrounded with less plastic estrogen shit and having higher natural test?

      Wasn't nutrition worse then though
Not the quality but the amount and availability
Like poor peasants couldn't afford to eat meat and proteins daily, eating grains and shit instead?

Are we talking about poor peasants c. 1200 or the pictured men closer to 1900?
Peasants are a nutritious diet outside of famine years, it was just unvaried and bland. Turn of the century didn't have 50 cent hamburgers but you'd still have meat, plus the rural poor who were much more common than now had easy access to fish and game (in NA).

poor peasants always had some animal that was giving milk, like a goat or a cow, some chickens, for meat and eggs, they were eating a ton of fish, that was cached in clean unpolluted waters. that's just meat. on top of that, add organic veggies and fruits, zero preservatives, seed oils, etc, lots of fermented foods.
in europe you would have to spend EUR2000 per person per month to eat what peasants were eating 2 centuries ago.

The thing is, you don't need 100g of protein a day or some huge calorie surplus to build muscles. The most important thing is consistently working your muscles

because actual strong people don't do that. They eat as much as they can to prepare them for the day, not barely scrap by on egg whites and protein powder to fuck around doing curls in the gym for 20 minutes. Have u ever done gardening ? if not i implore you to this spring it's backbreaking stuff.

    >20% of effort make 80% of the result
They concentrate on the 20% that matter.
You concentrate on the 80% that are optional.

In other words: Macros, protein, proper form etc. don't matter much.

Contrary to what you've been told my the media and your government, those physiques in the photos are not "buff". That's the resting body of a middle aged man that regularly does labour and eats what he needs. The issue with today is most people don't have to endure physical stress and they can over eat. Throw some cheap high fructose corn syrup in the mix and you've got a population with a 1 in 3 obesity issue.

Again, those physiques are not "buff" that's the body of a man.

      >the body of a man.
I have fatties ask me how I look so good. Do you go to the gym. No. I mean I do now. But last summer, no. I do landscaping, tree climbing and gardening for my job. People aren't used to seeing what a normal human body looks like anymore. Went to get my DOT physical and told the nurse that I had a few people comment that I was "too skinny". She laughed and leaned in and said "most people are used to seeing fat fucks these days" "you're at your ideal weight for your height". Based nurse dropped the F bomb. Probably a bit sick of seeing fat fucks herself.

Those guys have great physiques, but a majority of men throughout history didn't look like that. Very few people had access to the caloric load you need to pack on that kind of muscle. They would have been lean and wiry, almost scrawny. Being like 180 lbs would have put you in the top 1% of all men.

Fitness nutrition is kind of a meme, people of the past had smaller portions and therefore got lean
But if you look at like, pictures of American conscripts of dubya dubya two, most guys were just kinda skinny or skinny fat.

As others have said that's just basic physical labor body. My grandpa looked like them most of his life and he did laborious jobs. I work in a lumber yard so I only do certain workouts twice a week at home or gym. Labor work is kinda a gain stealer but I don't mind too much being a normal bmi. I just wish all the women in my area weren't into dad bods or black dudes.
