      I can actually do this but it can feel bad if I hold it for more than a minute. Feels like it would frick up your joints if you actually held it for a long time like many pooskins.You have to start with half lotus pose , do pidgeon pose and laying virasana

      Thanks, though half lotus rekts my ankle faster than my hip
      Any other cool mobility poses you can do ? I'm fairly close to the side split but I feel years away from full lotus

        It's essential to do half lotus for a while in extended periods (think 10-20 mins each side) before you even try to do full. Also working on side splits myself actually. I think one one the most important mobility postures is the reverse prayer pose especially if you are weightlifting/doing calisthenics. I have a history of bad wrists and it fixed every issue I had relating to carpal tunnel. Wheel pose/camel pose are also important in my opinion for lower back. Plow pose released and elongated my hamstrings. Check out the index in Light on Yoga for a more detailed beginner to advanced yoga sequence course, probably the most valuable resource if you're interested in hatha yoga.           I have a pinching sensation in my left hip when I bring my knee to my chest
          I feel it the most in the runner lunge with my elbow on the floor for example
          This pain became a pretty bad injury a year ago in a day where stupid plans made me walk hours carrying heavy things on very steep roads, at some point I couldn't even stand for more than half an hour in a normal day

          While it's mostly better now and I'm finally pain free on day to day activities it still comes back here and there when I do cardio, walk on steep roads, goes a bit too deep a bit too fast on my splits (also the pinching pain is still there)
          I've seen people explain that this may be due to imbalance in internal/external hip rotation and it's true that while I was always decent at side splits it's the opposite for the lotus
          So yeah lately I've been trying to see if I can fix this pinching issue using the lotus and so far it seems not to provoke worrying pain even though it feels like it should so it seems like a good lead

            Damn, sorry to hear about the lingering pains. I have a couple of those myself. Yoga is nice because it covers all the bases but i've found warming up, even for yoga, is really helpful just to get blood moving through muscle tissue and joints. heres a real simple warm up you could do before your sessions. In my opinion supta virasana should help your hip pain but that's only from my experience addressing my own hip pain in the past.

      Having both feet on top of both thighs at the same time requires quite a bit of mobility in the hip and ankles

    Careful bro. I permanently fricked my knee doing full lotus. I was meditating and yoga-ing all day every day for 3 years prior to the incident.

    Why would you want to do this? Your knees aren't supposed to be flexible laterally like that, its only a matter of time before you snap your shit up

      You aren't supposed to twist your knees at all, outside of the standard rotational movement the knees are designed to move in. It's more about hip rotation.

      You are supposed to practice half lotus every day, ussually during a meditation practice, for like 1-2 years, and every week you should notice that you can comfortably sit in half lotus for longer periods of time. After 1-2 years of that, many people should be able to comfortably sit in full lotus for 40-60 minutes or more.
      There are exercises, like butterfly stretches, that open the hip flexibility.

      So sitting in half lotus every day for 1-2 years if kind of like the best exercise to train for full lotus. People think it's an overnight thing, but it's the result of a having daily meditation practice with a seated asana.

    i can do this easily and many other stretches, but can't fricking reach my toes (like, i reach halfway across the shin)

      Reach your toes with a straight or a round back ? Because I'm nowhere near lotus but I can easily put my hands flat on the floor and have my head touch my knees if I round my back
