how do i cope with quitting sports and just going into 'fitness' as my sole physical activity?

how do i cope with quitting sports and just going into 'fitness' as my sole physical activity? i suck at team sports. i have no problem making friends with people on the team but i'm always a liability on defense, i don't have that '6th sense' high game IQ, and it's demoralizing putting so many hours in, and some dude who played d1 in college and hasn't been to practice in literally half a year shows up and beast modes everyone without breaking a sweat. i'm not improving, i'm not having fun, and it's hours out of my week that leave me mentally exhausted, depressed and frustrated.

compare that to just being in a gym, favorite music playng, maybe spend 45min - 1 hour doing resistance training at your own pace, i can push myself or back off and go light whenever i want. it's fricking heaven, it's therapeutic. i don't have to play mind games with some genetic specimen to get a ball into a goal, i can just take an extra 30s and do shoulder raises and feel good about myself for once. i still feel like a [[[defeated male]]] for just giving up but frick me i was miserable. i just want to look good and be healthy

    why not do both?
you only get better through practice and repetition. that D1 college athlete has probably been playing sportsball since he could walk and has 50,000 hours on you. Put more work in and quit feeling sorry for yourself.

I feel exactly the same. I'm probably going to quit rugby soon for that reason. Maybe I'll pick it up in a few years when I have enough mass to compensate but I just suck ass at it right now and I'm not even friends with anyone in the club. The gym is so much more enjoyable

    >high game IQ
i fricking hate stupid meme phrases like this and people who cant communicate without using these stock expressions.

Why are you playing these sports? Are you trying to play competitively? Or are you just doing it to get better and to have fun. Theres always going to be a bigger fish, someone better than you. Especially if guys have a background in it. Youre going to be far behind. They get it back fast because they did it for a long time. If you can work up to a point where you are even comparable to these people at all its an accomplishment. If these guys are 10 times your ability, they should be. Work so they are only 5 times your ability. Or twice your ability. Its like playing a videogame. You cant just put in a bunch of hours for a few months and expect to be as good as someone who used to play this for years. your goal shouldnt be to be better than that person but to try and learn and slowly close the gap. You only get better by playing with or against people better than you anyway you need to change your approach.

Sports unless its your life passion or your job are temporary, do this shit while you are young enough to enjoy the experience because in another 20 years you might not be able to do it anyway and neither will that other dude.

      >spprts IQ
      Is relaxation + experience.
Your current training doesn't give you those? Then your training is shit, simple as. You can't expect to do things wrong and succeed, it's shit in, shit out.
OP should be thankful he has a laboratory where he can immediately find out if his ideas work or not. That's literally a priceless thing.

You mean giving up? Yeah, cope is not possible.

Fact is that your coach sucks, your training sucks, and the d1 guy has a good coach and is smarter about training. You probably do meme shit from reddit and IST while he imitates what the pros do and retains what works for him.

But sure, if you want to be the incel dork who can't bite the bullet and do the opposite of what the internet says, give up and go lifting. It's more suited to you.

    > i'm not improving, i'm not having fun

If you’re a grown man doing this as a hobby either quit now or take a break (like a month+ at least). If you can see yourself improving, even slowly, and it’s grueling and not “fun” I’d say stick with. And conversely if you were having fun and being happy and sucking I’d say stick with it also. But you’re not being paid to play, you’re not playing in college or anything, so if you’re burnt out and not seeing progress or enjoying yourself why bother? You’re supposed to ENJOY yourself unless it’s a job or a serious obligation.

play to your strengths. if you suck at sports, and you find them "frustrating and mentally exhausting", then there's no point in playing them. the people who are good at sports enjoy playing them BECAUSE they're good at them, and that allows them to continue getting better at them.

you need to do something for physical fitness, and you need to do something social. but if you're shit at sports, you need to find something else. if you can find something you're actually good at, you will enjoy it, and it will change your life.

why does this b***h look so angry? don't these sullen prostitutes realize that just fricking smiling, or at least looking remotely inviting, will increase their attractiveness and thus the amount of views they get more than any level of fitness or any instagram filter?

why do you need to cope at all? sounds like it's just not for you, man.
    >i'm not improving, i'm not having fun
I currently don't play any sports, mainly because I'd rather play pickup basketball with a group of friends than anything organized but all my friends have disparate schedules. So I just lift and roon.

really interesting situation and point of view. You get down to it, you're saying how do you cope with feeling defeated, like a failure and a quitter. And the answer isn't gonna be in the gym. The answer is gonna be out there in your career or your travels or some kind of challenge and rite of passage

You could practice the skills at your own rythm then.
If you REALLY want to play.
I'm in a culture that loves football and I never liked it, so sometims I tried to practice but I got mad because I had to try for something that I hated.
Anyway, just practice the skills by yourself and once they're really polished you wont struggle with quick thinking
