        dehydration increases the risk of cramps and weakens it, so yes , imagine what would happen if your pec cramped erratically while pressing 5 plates.

            I wasn't disagreeing, nothing wrong with testing 1rm if you warm up properly and aren't a moron.
            I do it with squats and deads quite often, I'll work up to an RPE 9 single and then back off to my working weights.

      the weaker end of the muscle ripped and it started pulling because of the weight's pressure, they cut his chest open and removed the torn pec and now he has an imbalanced chest and will not be able to bench (or most chest involved lifts) for years

    Don't do stupid shit like 1RM unless you are actually competing or at Olympia. Calculating the 1RM is more than adequate and precise enougg if you test withing <6 reps.
    Also if you egolift above your paygrade you deserve this.

    I tore my pec on an armbar gone wrong, but I met another dude who tore it doing incline bench. Neither of us were on roids. It’s just a risk you take. Close grip puts less stress on your pec major tendon. Don’t do roids and if you do don’t bench beyond what your tendons can handle.

      Also a company thing is to partially tear it and subsequently fully tear it such as what happens to Cody Rhodes who suffered a minor injury while wrestling and then fully tore it while benching.
