How do I get bigger calves?

Just keep doing calf raises over and over? Should I strap a plate to my chest and go hiking to simulate being fat?

        Blacks who trace their ancestry back to Kenya and surrounding regions have high ankles and a long achilles tendon. The achilles acts as a spring and shock absorber when we run; hence, they are incredible long-distance runners. If you have similar lower legs (high ankles), weighted calf raises do basically nothing. You're better off sprinting up hill and performing power movements that hit the entire posterior chain, such as high pulls and power cleans.

    remember you need absurd volume on calves to make progress. also do stairmaster, with weights or weighted vest if you can swing it

    Go out for a hike with lots of uphill and downhill motion, and do that hike regularly.

    I used to run 4 miles a day from school to home. Now I skip rope 3 times a week at muay thai, 2 or 3 rounds of 3 minutes of skipping, making sure to keep constant tension in the calves. I also work in an amazon warehouse 4 days a week, where I am essentially standing and walking for 10 hours a day. I probably walk between roughly 5-10 miles on days that I work.

    tldr, running, skipping rope, lots of walking. I dont do any sort of weighted calf work regularly

        I mean 10 hours is definitely overkill, main point was that just walking can have pretty big benefits for calf size.

    Yes. You can get a 50lb weighted vest and that'll be way more comfortable. Stairmill or uphill treadmill for 30 minutes+

    Calves don't hypertrophy like other muscles

    but you should probably do a mix of heavy reps and high rep work
    I used to walk incline with dumbells for 5-10 mins and do a few reps of that since some people think calves need higher reps.

        Skipping is a momentum exercise, you don't (or not for long, anyway - you can still do it until you're at a standstill).
        It's also a very based way to travel downhill.

    anecdotal but for me it was cycling. hill climbs in low gear did wonders for my lower body.
