How do I get the discipline to eat one meal a day?

How do I get the discipline to eat one meal a day?

If I eat a large meal, I'll be full for about 4 hours but then I get hungry later on. Should I eat low calorie snacks throughout the day?
1 big meal and then little 100cal snacks every 4 hours?

      >How do I get the discipline to eat one meal a day?
      This guy has it:
I eat one meal a day. The first week or two is going to be like hell because you've never done it before. But after a while, you just get used to it, and it becomes another habit. One thing that might help is that if you get hungry, drink something with no or negligible calories in it: Water, black coffee, black tea or green tea (caffeinated or uncaffeinated, absolutely nothing added to any drink).

But it literally warps my entire thought process around it
      >I'm hungry
      >I want food
      >don't eat
      >but I'm hungry
Then it goes on for hours, breaking my mental concentration and hindering my performance elsewhere

Sounds like you don't have much going on day to day. Fill your day with more activities. Talk with people, run errands, pick up a hobby, do more at work, do shit other than sit on IST yelling racial slurs at people pretending to be Indian and it makes things a lot easier

I work for 10 hours, go home, take a nap, watch the kids, then go to the gym, then sleep.
I have to feed the kids dinner so that's usually when I eat with them and they leave snacks everywhere so sometimes as in cleaning up I'm eating snacks they left behind.
If I eat my omad at work, I want to be able to use will power to skip eating dinner and skip eating snacks while cleaning up

Your body will adapt within a week, maybe two, if you eat what you eat at set predetermined mealtimes and power through the initial hunger pangs and do NOT frick up and snack constantly. Within days the body will learn that food is incoming at x hour(s) and the constant hunger will go away. However many people with shit discipline aren't able to push through the necessary consecutive days of hunger and will slip and cheat snack, or don't establish set mealtimes and try to eat whenever, which fricks up the process.

Discipline and consistency, and accepting you're gonna be quite hungry for maybe a week plus. But then once you adapt the hunger will vanish like poof and you'll only get hungry at mealtimes

I would eat a minimum of 3 times per day - breakfast, lunch, dinner - but with perhaps rather light breakfast and lunch and then a larger meal at dinner. Maybe a snack somewhere. But that's just me.

So don't eat one meal a day. Shit like that is just gimmick weight loss advice. Eat three meals and make sure you get the right number of calories.

With OMAD you get the satisfaction of eating and appreciating a filling meal

I wanted to try something new to trick the body you know. Then I tend to snack at the end of my meals, so I was eating 3 meals + 3 snacks. If I do OMAD my thought process is that I can eat at work, where I don't have snacks and then go home and be satisfied and not eat a meal or a snack. But its hard for me to have that discipline. Maybe because I'm only 3 days into it.

        >Maybe because I'm only 3 days into it.
That's exactly why it's so hard for you. Just keep the faith, my man, and always have a bottle of water in hand. Sooner or later, you just get used to it and don't feel hungry but once a day.

Your body quickly adapts to whatever meal frequency you employ. If you eat 3 times a day regularly, you're going to feel pangs of hunger 3 times a day, if you eat once you're going to feel hungry once. The reason why fat fricks can't lose weight is because they think hunger occurs when they body needs nutrients, when in reality it's just a biological alarm clock

Basically this. It can take a few weeks, but if you're dedicated you can get yourself on a once-a-day schedule.

    OMAD = diner
Easier to delay breakfast to the end of the day than being postmeal hungry until the next morning. For me, at least. Also: salt/electrolytes for hunger.

Just don't jump straight into OMAD. Just eat less than you do now until you reach omad. If you eat 3 meals a day + snacks, start with stopping the snacks, then remove breakfast until it's habit, then remove lunch. Bing bang boom you're eating one meal a day.

Why not OMAD for breakfast? If I don't eat breakfast or lunch then I'll be hungry at work and that's not good as I'll be thinking about food all day

Update: feeling a bit hungry but I think I can make it. I have to tell my wife no sandwich today but she will survive not making me a dish to eat for a couple days

            Anonymous

Yeah okay, all well and good when it comes to the biology of health and fitness. But the most brilliant engineer in his field got tripped up on something as simple as moving his one meal for the day to a different time of day. Did he really need us to detail out for him "Yeah, sure: In order to move your one meal of the day to the morning, you put the food in your mouth, chew, and swallow it between the hours of 5am and 12 noon"? OMAD isn't nuclear engineering, it's just a schedule. You eat ONE meal a day, the time you eat it hardly matters all too much. It really is that simple. Yes, I'm being a prick but there's a reason for the snark.

              Anonymous

There's not. It's simple but there are many social and biological factors into when you're eating your one meal for the day
              >hungar panes
              >irritation from dealing with people
              >physical activity level
              >mental activity level
              >digestion
              >circadian schedule
              >ketosis time
              >etc

Obviously I'm not asking how to eat food in the morning. Jesus. Youre really dumb aren't you?

Update: Didn't snack. Just have to finish this workout and go to bed.

You're overthinking it, dumb ass. And you're continuing to overthink it. All the answers you ever needed have been repeated more than once in this thread so far and thus it's served its purpose. Your body is not a machine, you bright and shining "engineer", which breaks down the moment it goes outside a certain set of parameters. Your body is a self-correcting organism that can adapt to a wide variety of circumstances. A man of your obvious intelligence should have been able to figure this out the first time he got a cold and eventually got better. I hope your wife spends more time with the kids than you do.

                >Update: Didn't snack. Just have to finish this workout and go to bed.

I'm very surprised, in earnest, you were able to do this and not overthink your way into excusing yourself into fricking up something that simple. Go you.

                >overthinking it
The idiots motto for just winging shit. If you actually care about something you should aim to do it optimally and efficiently. Especially something like health and fitness which has trickle down effects on the rest of your day to day activities. Plus there is no harm in discussions and brainstorming with peers. Only an idiot (you) would get mad at two people trying to optimize something which is simple. A pure consumer/end user mindset.

I do OMAD for breakfast and I think it works better this way. You usually don't get hungry but if you do it's only a slight hunger before bed so you can just sleep and continue the cycle the next day. I'm a NEET though so I make dinner meals when I get up and don't have to worry about time constraints.

          I'm 5'7 150lbs. Trying to hit about 130lbs to get a defined 6 pack

Omad is one meal a day. I typically try to eat 1300 calories over 3 meals. But now I want to eat 1300 calories in one meal and that's it for the day.
My tdee is only 1950 so it's only -650 which is aggressive but summer is around the corner.

Typically all I eat is a cup of rice and chicken mixed together, a protein bar, and 4 boneless chicken wings.

                Also this

Eat more meat and you won't get hungry for ages. OMAD means you need all your nutrition for the day in that meal which means you need a heck of a lot of animal foods. If you're OMAD but eating like a bro diet or vegetarian then it's just not going to work long term.

I reccomebd you to take a look at this book, it deals with many of these issues of not having discipline,.One could say it is not so much about getting more of it, but using it more effectively.
But uf you don't wanna boy it (or pirate it) or read it, there are summaries on youtube, but if you dont have the time for those either, In a nutshell the key concept is that, habits (good or bad), are sustained by 4 components:
    >How easy is it to do
    >How satisfying is it
    >How visible are the things you need to do it
    >How desirable its results are
In you case, you could make it harder and less visible to eat stuff by having your fridge in a room you normally do not enter that much, and having things around your house that remind you what your objective is. Figure out what could affects these things.
