This. It's calories in vs calories out. 99/100 it's not your fricking thyroid, and you don't have some special snowflake metabolism. Most people vastly underestimate the amount of calories they actually consume.

caloriecalculator dot net is a great place to start.

Plug in all your info, and you'll find "maintain weight". That's how much calories you have to eat a day in order to stay fat.

What you wanna do is eat what's labeled "one pound weight per week" or "two pound per week". Basically anything over .5 is a good starting point.

What's important is that you don't put ANYTHING in your fricking mouth without measuring it's calories first. You can start to get lax about this later down the line but being anal about it at the start is part of the process if you wanna lose weight. Buy a kitchen scale, they're like 20 bucks at Walmart. Measure the stuff out before eating it, ensure you're properly portioning.

The other thing you can do is play around with the "amount of excercise" variable on this calculator, which will allow you to see how much more you can eat if you being working out. I personally recommend 3 times a week, 20 - 30 mins of cardio (moderate effort) for a beginner if you just wanna lose weight. It's important to note that this will burn muscle as well as fat, but if you're fat you'll likely have more fat than muscle to lose.

If you wanna lose ONLY FAT, then do your cardio in addition to weight lifting. You don't need to do a shit ton of lifts, look up basic ones online, do those, then hit your cardio after.

Hey OP, I'm a lazy dumbass but I fan help
    >they said "some people are just bigger than others". Is that liberal bs?
Yes, CICO applies universally (If energy (calories) in < energy out, fat reserves will depelete). Unless you believe fat comes from nowhere this should be obvious.
    >But muh genetics
Only affect your metabolism, which can be increased through routine exercise or thyroid medication (get your thyroid levels examined asap, imo)
    >But im hungry
Eat smaller portions, order small meals with water if you eat out like me. Stop buying snacks, drink water/crystal light/seltzer between meals. STOP EATING AT YOUR DESK.
    >I dont want to give up soda
This is caused by caffiene addiction. Reducing your caffiene intake will help with this. If you start to get headaches from no caffiene youre on the right path, but you can have smaller amounts to stay functional.

Last piece of advice is to take walks on your lunch break before eating. 10-20 minute walks a day will improve your energy reserves and metabolism, as well as condition your body to more effective exercise (look up couch to 5k)

NTA but genuinely curious, what is the sentiment behind this?

Eating while sedentary or distracted is impossible to moderate in my experienc, but I'm one of those guys that will go through a tub and a half of popcorn at the movies.
If you work in an office it's even worse, you get so fricking bored you just want to stuff your face with candy

Fair enough, but wouldn't simply filling your plate with proper portion size negate that?

For example my chicken and rice last night I measured out, packed the rest into the fridge, ate at my desk. Once finished I was done. Does that work?

…no it’s not. But if you’re that weak…literally just don’t have snacks available. Fairly easy task, don’t spend money.

Ugh, yeah. That vending machine in the break room is my enemy. I bring my own snacks to keep the beast at bay. But it's hard to find something that's healthy enough that it's not just as bad, but tasty enough that I don't give up and go to the machine anyway. I know it's pathetic.

Swap out snacks with a hot drink.
Warm liquids in the stomach makes it think it has food in it.
Also try some high protein meals. Protein keeps you full for longer.
Like oatmeal, greek yogurt, nuts, legumes.

My lunch is high protein, and that helps some. But I never heard about the hot liquids. I might try that, thanks!

I saw a dietician for a few months and she told me about it. I generally get so hungry around 3pm so I'll have a coffee with a bit more milk than usual and it tides me over until about 5ish.

I don't like coffee, which is part of what got me so fricking fat in the first place. Drank soda for years - waaaay too much of it. I've managed to get that down to one cheat day per week, but that just means I'm not getting fatter.

Sorry, blah blah I'm shit blah blah. Good on you, Anon, for improving!

Try tea? You can get some nice sugar free hot chocolates too. Usually in the hippie section of the supermarket.

Cheat days are important. I actually had fast food for the first time in 4 months yesterday as my cheat meal. Was not as good as i remember. I couldn't finish my soda either

Don’t bring your wallet to work or any money and also don’t buy snacks ever, just buy food. The issue with snacking is almost entirely just due to allowing it to happen (having snacks available).

Weigh and then count every calorie that goes in. You might not lose weight for weeks or months but it doesn't matter if you count everything

    EVERYTHING

You lose weight by eating less and exercising more.
If you find you can't do that due to some sort of mental illness or condition, work on that first.
If you can't fix that either, give up and get used to being fat.

Don't let idiots tell you you're just meant to be that way. Frame and body fat percentage are two different things. It is calories in, calories out. Eat less, and eat high quality foods. You will feel hungry at first. That means you're losing weight, fatty. Go for walks, jogs. Lift weights. Drink lots of water. Limit sugars, sodas, lots of breaded foods, etc. Repeat this process for the rest of your life, and you will look good (and feel great) within a year or two. Or continue to be a fat ass. Sounds simple, because it is.

Eat more protein and fat. Yes, fat. Eat less carbs. Eat less processed carbs. Eat more frozen vegetables. When you crave dense carbs, eat potatoes. Normal microwave baked potatoes, not cooked in oil etc. Yes, fat is good but not on carbs as much as with protein. Potatoes will give you potassium which you can't effectively take as a supplement. So will yams. Take a multivitamin for everything else.
Soak a pound of dry beans overnight and simmer in a pot for a few hours or cook in a crock pot. Get a cheap rice cooker and a wire colander and thoroughly wash three cups of dry rice then cook in rice cooker. Get two cans of sweet corn. Get a large bowl and mix all these together. There's your dense carbs with alittle protein thrown in for when you get tired of vegetables and potatoes. Season with cumin or pepper and a little salt. If you want more carbs and flavor, add a little butter or cheese in your bowl when you microwave it. Protein? Add a little canned chicken. Both? Fry up a little ground beef and add.

If you eat one third cooked vegetables, one third potatoes, and one third this ratio, and add protein and fat up to some reasonable macro percentages, and watch your calories, you will be full, lose weight, and save a lot of money.
