Sumo DLs are just hated on because zoomers love them, but do whatever you want man. I know guys who don't do some conventional lifts because they're rehabilitating certain muscles, so frick what other people think and do what to need to for your goals. You'd actually be better off doing trap bar DLs, but I've never seen a trap bar at the gyms I've been to so I'll assume you only have a bar

Every time I see someone doing a a deadlift with a trap bar, I cringe. Even when done properly, the chain of motion they go through looks like their spine is gonna get snapped the frick up, do you know what I mean? Like their spine doesn’t stay neutral, it takes a bend about halfway up and they like snap upright.

            interesting
that's actually why i never deadlift with trap bar, always with straight bar
the trap bar always felt way harder on my spine

Deadlifting for your quads is definitely a meme, but it can be done and sumo is how you would do it.

You can't "work out" your knees moron, your knees are a joint. If you feel your knees in a major way after an exercise you're degenerating them irreversibly.

I don't have a trap bar, could I just use a wider grip?

        No, but you can sumo
        >thought it was a meme
No, just a wide stance powerlifters use to reduce range of motion, and thus lift more is a meme and not useful for general strength training.

How do I make my deadlifts work out my knees and quads more than my back and glutes?

Why do you want to do this just wondering? A well rounded routine would have some kind of barbell squat or leg machine for your knees and quads, and a hinge for your hamstrings, glutes and spinal erectors. Sumo is intermediate between a squat movement and a 'back and glutes' hinge movement, hence why is works your quads a bit more and your spinal erectors a bit less. Nonetheless, a squat will hit your quads way more.

Trapbar deadlifts with handles down feel insane in my legs. I only just started doing them but it really feel like of those exercises where you you just know you’re gonna get a lot of gains of. The handles down part is essential tho

why would you want to? pulls are for hips and back. just do squats

Just fricking do squats lol. This is such a stupid thread. DL are king for getting your lower back stronger and they also work too damn good for glutes and hamstrings. I don't even know why you'd not prefer to just squat for your quads when that is the best exercise for them. If you can't do that for whatever reason then do leg press jesus.

    Trap bar diddy
Sumo will also work your quads more than hamstrings, but it still hits the glutes pretty hard (even harder than conventional, at least for me)
