You JUST DO IT
I CANT
HOW CAN OTHER PEOPLE just do it AND WHY CANT I JUST DO IT TOO
why does it seem so easy for others
where are their mental blocks
their doubts
their anxiety
their eternal tiredness
their no motivation
their depression?
you're just gonna have to hit rock bottom and feel disgusted by yourself enough to get motivation to change THEN you can use discipline to continue improving
but you're gonna have to suffer first
These are the only right answers.
You unironically have it too easy. Once you hit rock bottom and find enlightenment through God you will never want to fall into stagnation ever again
Turn your brain off and become an automaton
You're allowed to think "wow I hate doing this" as long as your body is doing it

Lift your left arm straight in front of you, shoulder height. Put it down again. Do the same thing with your right arm. Stand up, stand on your toes, lift both arms straight up over you head, and stretch, try to reach as high as possible. Now sit back down again. That's all it takes, all the muscles in your body move according to your will.
You are now aware of your body. Of the position of your limbs. There's no resistance to any of it. Pack your gym bag and head to the gym the same way you just lifted your arms and stretched your body. You simply move your body.

In their heads where you can't see it.
You just see the results of their actions and assume that it was easy or even enjoyable for them to do the things they needed to do.
>why does it seem so easy for others
That's your perception, it's not.
I don't like it that much, but each day I feel better and better, and I grow stronger, in itself, crawling through the mud is almost unbearable but I do it so it's not hard anymore.
If you can do it on your own, go to a gym and hook yourself up with a trainer and ask him to give you shit to do.
Then you just obey, if you have complains tell him, if you have goals, tell him. If you are in pain, tell him. The trainer should give you motivation if you don't have any.
All you have to do is go there and follow instructions. Turn your brain off and do it.
It's not easy, it's not painless, but it's good for you. So just give the first step and then take the next one, and the next one, and the next one, until running feels like walking.

They have all those and more. But eventually you get to a point where fricking around and ending back up at square zero becomes scarier than any of those other things.
>t. took like 2 weeks off gym for the holidays, went back today and mostly maintained my PRs except for my most important one where I backslid HARD and now I've never been more motivated
Think of yourself as a blind man who can now see. Think of how terrifying it would be to go back into the dark. Then decide which you prefer, action or inaction.
>I've never been more motivated

unless youre competing it just doesnt seem that important to get worked up over

I want to know too
build small habits, make sure your meals and workouts become part of your routine, as in something you need to keep the time during the day/week
You only have to JUST DO IT until you get some visible results, then it'll sink its hooks in you and you won't need discipline until your noob gains run out.
If you're already out of your noob gains then you just gotta JUST DO IT. Work on your discipline daily by forcing yourself to do small things you don't want to do until the feeling of pushing through that discomfort becomes familiar. Find things that motivate you and get your energy up, then get your ass in the gym as fast as possible before the motivation wears off again.
I have doubts, anxiety, fatigue, depression, and adhd. My motivation lapses all the time but I still get my ass to the gym 4-5 times a week so I know you can, too. You just gotta commit to ignoring the mental discomfort and doing shit anyway. It's a skill like anything else. I know it sucks and it's unfair or whatever but no amount of sympathy from others will make it better, it's still your life and you're the only one who has to deal with it if it sucks to be you. Fix your shit and give the negative thoughts no purchase.
You clearly never developed into adulthood
Step one: decide what you're going to do and how you're going to act
Step two: carry this out no matter what
Step three: analyze data after a period of doing this and see if anything needs changed
Sounds more like autism than adulthood but good advice nonetheless
How does one become an adult? How do I change my attitude completely
>How does one become an adult?
eat a lot of shit (metaphorically)
By doing things you don't feel like doing but that you know you have to do to live a liveable life
motivation/discipline are derived from the same source: willpower
if you talk to a shrink they will tell you about how many "spoons" you can force yourself to do in a day. Typically the more needs you have fulfilled in your life the more you can force yourself to do undesirable things. So the order of operations is fufill your unfufilled needs first, and then work on the undesirables. Your goal is to maximize your willpower enough to the point where you can do something regularly enough to make it a habit. Then you can move onto something else.
Discipline is a commitment to an identity. The identity is the combination of actions and perceptions that define who you are, and must be defined by the individual. Every activity and thought you have is a vote in favor of a chosen identity (e.g., choosing to go lift is a vote for an athletic/fit identity while choosing to binge eat is a vote for a totally different identity). And your mind is not stupid, so you're not going to trick it into thinking that eating ice cream everyday is in-line with a healthy diet, so conflicts will rise to the surface in the form of feeling bad about an action or thought.
You must define the identity you want to embody, then continuously ask if the action you do or do not take is in-line with that identity. That is what discipline is.

Do something that unlocks your ability to let go and make concious decisions, start easy with pushups until failure, then take a cold shower (beware of having a fricking cardiac arrest though I almost died so many fricking times because the water was so cold I actually felt my heart failing and I passed out for 5 seconds, now I don't take them but the cold/cold water is the biggest mental strenght steroid, besides literal pain of course) then decide to do something straight for 5 minutes, like reading or sitting with your eyes closed or lifting a weight, but no computer or phone, just staring at the wall. Then go for a long walk, without a phone. You will be forced to walk back home bored as frick now for like 30 minutes, you will slowly bulid that muscle of "doing" or not doing, if we talking about not drinking or doing whatever. Keep in mind you don't need to be doing this hard shit forever, just until your brain unfreezes a bit and you lighten up about doing literally anything
just a little addendum on the cold shower thing: OP, DO NOT put your head under the freezing stream of water. You WILL pass out. There are no treasures beyond that stream, only DEATH.
I was i 0.02 degress cold water lately. Was more a pool of icecubes than water actually. Didnt die, felt great for hours. Cold shower every day. Stop beeing a pussy. Literally write homosexual on the hot water button and chad on the cold one. Then decide what you wanna be when you take a shower

If you have to ask, its already over.
Discipline is usually ingrained from early childhood and combined with your brain characteristics.
Just like certain races are more impulsive or meek. So are certain brains within those subgroups more or less inclined to stick with a difficult routine.
If it was easy to change, everyone who took a self-help course would be a richgay.
You suffer. You suffer from being fat, being weak, being a coward, whatever situation you find so unbearable that you have no choice but to make a difference or submit to a life of misery and depression. Excuses only last so long, and the vast majority of people waste their lives making excuses rather than owning up and taking responsibility for themselves.
Think of how many people die miserable on their deathbed, vs those who are at peace. Very few die satisfied with themselves.
this is how the attitude that creates mass shooters
the point isn't to just make a difference, it's to make a positive difference
I don't think this advice to just wait until you fricking snap and pray it's not of the mental breakdown variety is helpful
Try pre-workout to get a little extra pep in your step. Then just try to make working out part of your routine and you will become more disciplined. Every mile begins with a single step.
>decide to get disciplined
>manage to do whatever it is I'm doing fairly diligently for a month
>doesn't get any easier plus you don't really see much difference in a month plus the amount of reasons not to waste time doing whatever it is starts to add up
>eventually stop doing it
It just takes too long for anything to pay off, though to be fair even if it did pay off in some way it'd still be annoying to do
whoever said it takes 21 days to build a habit was dead fricking wrong, in fact I think that study or whatever turned out to be some mindless task like drinking a glass of water. I don't know if its just me or not but nothing ever gets any easier to do or put up with
Your personality is plastic. Basically, if every day you wake up and say, today I am going to role play as a character who acts a certain way, after about four to six months, it will become second nature. You won't be role playing as that personality; it will just be your actual personality. It's hard, but you basically need to pretend to be a person who is intrinsically motivated for a several months, until it becomes who you actually are, at which point you can just use your motivation to accomplish what you need.
Whole thing goes down south when people you know call you out on the roleplay and ruin it
nobody knows who I really am, I never felt this empty before...
I am one of those people but only if the character the person is playing is annoying (protip: it almost always is). The whole thing doesn't go down, it just gets reshaped in a more natural manner.
also, just to "prove" I'm not some kind of psycho: if I see a bro making a clown of himself I tell him in private he doesn't need to to do this and he might have to tone it down because it's glaringly obvious he's doing some social experiment.
This is why the best time to do it is during a major life change, like starting college, starting a new job, or, after a move. If those aren't options then you may just have to go into the hyperbolic time chamber for a few months and be an anti social hermit. If people ask where you are just say you're busy or whatever.
Thats when you double down. Peer pressure is for losers.
Just decide whether doing the action or not makes you a Black person or not. Works like a charm for me.
i assume you dont work out then
so you take the thing you need to do
and then you like
do it
stop asking how you little b***h, just do it

By acepting that it wont feel good as long as your a lazy, sick piece of crab. Just acept that your feelings are not the most important thing in the world. You still can, you just dont want to bc of feefees. I view myself as weak when i act like shit and this helps. Try downloading lifeRPG, its fricking great for this
Hate how you look and use that as motivation. Otherwise you are fine with yourself and you don’t need to go to the gym. Simple as
I'm fine with how I look but girls aren't apparently.
A lot of people don't know about self-love or what it is. I was fatherless so I didn't understand it either. Women express love by performing emotional labor for men, and the perk is that they can emotionally support themselves. Men show love by performing physical labor for women, and the perk that comes with that is likewise, hardiness and the ability to support themselves.
Mental health industry is predominantly women, so they have good intentions when they suggest for you to try and emotionally support yourself, but in practice, it falls on its face, a man cannot emotionally validate anything because that's not how men show love.
What you have to do is get out there no matter what and generate. Be positive, generative, input and have the output to show for it. You will feel better by the end of the day because then you will truly love yourself. Lean into what you were designed to do, be a producer. You will naturally build momentum and you will feel good about yourself the more you do it.
This is why there's a mental health crisis among men, we are feminized in society and our only recourse is feminine self-love practice which will not build our self-esteem. Conversely, it's also why single careerwomen are unhappy. But that's pretty obvious.
>ok how do i get discipline?
think less
do more
Discipline can't be built without the initial motivation to get you into a hobby/activity. We were always motivated at first to try something new, since the dawn of time.
If you have been going at a hobby/activity for a while, you shouldn't need motivation to keep going - if you need motivation to persevere at something that you have been working at for a while, that's inviting failure. It should be discipline that you've built that keeps you going on days where you just want to frick off.
Cont'd -
You build discipline by saying frick you to that voice in your head that wants you to be lazy and give up on something.
Commit yourself to a specific schedule, then when the time comes, walk outside, enter your car, and drive to the gym. Then, exit the car and walk into the gym.
bummp
dicipline really is just forcing yourself to do shit you don't want to do, its simple, not easy.
My motivation is the envy and hatred I feel when I think about someone fricking with my crush. It feels like 80s movie shit with me being a cool hero guy with neonpants and smoke hanging from my lip
Reject comfort, you havent earned it. Also watching One Piece helped me to start improving.
Think of it like a snowball. You've gotta get it down a hill and make it into a BIG snowball in the process. If you keep pushing it, eventually it'll start rolling on its own, making your job much easier. But you still need to watch and guide the snowball, lest it hit a tree or rock and turn to shit.
And eventually you become comfortable enough that you neglect your snowball. "Oh it's big enough, I'll just take a break", and that's perfectly fine to do. UNTIL a bunch of shit-eating gnomes emerge from their holes with the sole purpose of smashing your snowball. And the longer you neglect it, the more they smash it.
The key to rolling a big snowball down a hill is to do so consciously. Be aware of its size and momentum, how able you are to keep rolling it safely and efficiently. And always remind yourself, whenever your efforts start to lack, of what those gnomes are going to do if you don't start rolling that ball again soon. Remember how it felt, watching those gnomes destroy the physical embodiment of your efforts, and let that keep you going.
Frick the gnomes, make as big a snowball as you can.
