Try to keep yourself busy instead of just sitting around waiting to eat.

    >I get hungry and really upset and I have to snack
Here is your problem. I don't know if you're dieting in the best way possible, but restricting calories in any way will make you lose weight. When you get hungry and really upset, you should not respond by eating. you should develop a different habitual response, like going for a long walk outside (this is one of my favorite responses to any kind of stress). Or do some pushups. You'll be bad at them for a while, but if you keep doing them you'll get better.

Do you see how this is a cycle that needs to be broken if you want to lose weight? I get upset, so I have to eat. A few things may be true about you. You may have little control over your emotions, you may have little self control in general (and high recency), and you may have no response to emotional distress other than eating. All of these things lower your quality of life independently. In combination, they will prevent you from losing weight. I have thus far only provided advice on amending the last issue you're probably facing.

I have 2 book recommendations. I found these very helpful and illuminating on these issues you might be dealing with. I don't know if you read, if you don't just get one month of a audiobook subscription and find these two publications. The first is Willpower by Roy Baumeister and John Tierney, the second is The Power Of Habit by Charles Duhigg. Very helpful scientific analyses of these issues I've described which I suspect you're facing.

At least you're not super obese, so once you dissolve the behavioral blocks which prevent your progress, you really don't have a super long road ahead of you.

Please heed my advice, I think it will serve you well. Good luck

I just can't get over the feeling of being hungry
that only makes me more upset, and there's no way I can just stop being hungry besides eating something
I'll try not to eat all day or not snack on sweet shit and get really hungry and then I start getting upset because why the frick am I making myself suffer when I'm a shut in and have no girl to try to impress? it feels pointless

girl or not, your quality of life will go up from losing weight. People don't even realize how much worse everything gets because weight gain is usually too gradual to notice.
You also don't have to eat *nothing*. You can just eat foods that are not calorically dense. If you can't cook, learn to. It's not some secret art, just follow a recipe you find intetesting online. If you don't have the equipment to cook (stove), you can still eat decent-tasting cold foods like cottage cheese with berries/cinnamon or your fav fresh vegetables/lean meat/pepper. Just as an example.
Changing your relationship with food is definitely importanz, as the other anon said. It should not be a primary source of pleasure or coping mechanism when upset. It may be hard to conceptualize now, but the long term enjoyment/contentment/happiness/confidence from shedding the weight far outweighs any short term pleasure from gorging on food.

eat less or eat nothing, both work. building muscle will help raise your TDEE long term and burn some extra short term

        >I start getting upset because why the frick am I making myself suffer when I'm a shut in and have no girl to try to impress?
You're suffering because you're undoing the consequences of over indulging.
You do it so that you can improve your health, your appearance, your mood, your emotional state, and your overall quality of life. It's hard to imagine it but all of these things will improve when you lose weight and get healthy. Then you can not be a shut in and maybe eventually get a girl you actually want to impress, but you ain't impressing anyone by not getting anywhere first.

Like the other anon said, reprogram your relationship with food. You chase food because it gives you dopamine, find out how that works and learn how to sidestep it with other dopamine sources.
Learn how to cook healthy foods that are filling but not so calorie dense. Eat, but don't snack. Take long breaks between meals, or better yet got ot one meal a day. Practice intermittent fasting instead of just starving yourself since you know that will make you fail and relapse.
Look up some youtube videos on how insulin resistance works.

Take the time and effort to educate yourself on methods of what you're actually trying to accomplish so you have the tools to accomplish it instead of blindly throwing yourself into something and expecting results, jumping into the deep end with anything and making massive changes is a surefire way to fail and relapse. Take things one step at a time and the first step is learn what you're actually doing and why.

it's just hard because I don't know how to deal with being hungry
there's not really anything else I can do besides eat to try and stop the feeling
plus I still live with my dad and he constantly buys junk and fast food for dinners and stuff and that's usually what I end up eating, I don't really have control over what food is in the house

tell him to cut it the frick out. Look up a few basic recipes online and offer to cook them, go shopping for ingredients with him. If he won't, buy your own food. If you have no money, get a job assuming you're not underageb&. Part time probably covers your food costs and wont be too much of a shock if you're a NEET right now.
All the resources you need to fix your shit are at your disposal.
            >I don't know how to deal with being hungry
            It's okay to be hungry.
If you fix your diet, you probably don't even have to be in order to lose weight, but it's okay to be hungry.

you say that but it's extremely difficult to ignore
even if I do it just puts me in that shitty mood spiral
what typically are things I should be eating instead? not snacking on random shit is obvious but trying to calorie count everything sounds like a nightmare
also I'm just wondering how much weight I could even lose, I'm lighter than pretty much anyone would consider fat but it's like all in my gut and looks horrible

                >calorie counting sounds like a nightmare
it's not unless you're eating food you didn't make. Even then there is usually nutritional information available. All it is is adding some fricking numbers together.
                >things you should be eating instead
My go to weight loss food is cottage cheese mixed with stuff. It's filling, has good macronutrients, and tastes pretty good. It also doesn't even require you to cook.
For savory, mix with various (ideally fresh) veggies, grind some pepper into it, boil some eggs or add meat.
For sweet, mix with berries, add cinnamon, and a little(!!) bit of maple syrup.
                >I'm lighter than anyone would consider fat
I don't know how tall you are. That determines your weight range. Also, muscle is WAY more dense than fat, so if you've never really exercised, you can have shit all for muscles and put on a surprising volume of fat without going into crazy high BMI territory.
The term for that is skinnyfat.
If you exercise and gain some muscle, you will not only look better, you will also burn more calories just by existing to maintain the extra muscle.

            >it's just hard because I don't know how to deal with being hungry
I literally gave you a bunch of things to look up and learn how to deal with being hungry
            >learn to cook healthy food
            >foods that are not calorie dense
            >intermittent fasting
            >insulin resistance
You can type any of these things into youtube and spend some time researching them, all while not being hungry and all will help you on your fat loss quest.

            >it's okay to be hungry
you say that but it's extremely difficult to ignore
even if I do it just puts me in that shitty mood spiral

            >not snacking on random shit is obvious but trying to calorie count everything sounds like a nightmare
homie its incredibly easy. really basic maths. Look at the packet of something "200kcal per 100g", 200g packet, I've just eaten 400 calories. It's not rocket surgery.
If you can't do something as basic as keeping track of what you eat then I don't know what help you're expecting anyone here to give you. This is literally step one my homie and it's the fricking easiest.

You've been given so much actionable information in this thread and you still knee-jerk response to "it's hard being hungry"
Grow the frick up and put in the minimum effort at least if you want to get anywhere.

    >I can't cook
I cannot ever take seriously anyone who says this. This to me is the equivalent of saying "I can't wash myself" or "I can't wipe" if not worse. It's a basic function that has to be performed to stay alive and you absolutely need to have someone else do it for you? Rethink your life, seriously.

morons think cooking is complicated alchemy when most instructions for food prep boil down to some combination of
      >cut ingredients into adequate size
      >heat stove to appropriate temperature
      >put ingredients in pan/pot and leave on for x amount of time
      >eat the fricking food
The only difficult part about cooking a decent meal is doing it fast.

    Hi OP,

You will find it gets easier once your hunger craving and blood sugar levels go up and down more evenly.

Have you ever eaten and feel physically full but want something sweet like dessert? That’s because you’re full but you are still craving that blood sugar spike.

After a few days of not eating sweets at all you will be more satisfied in regards to sugar at the same time You are satisfied with food, and it makes it a lot easier.

Its difficult to cut out sugar. I recommend using juice at first to curb cravings for sweets, then advance to breads or pasta when a sugar craving hits, then finally just whole fruits.

With your blood sugar under control, it gets much easier to not eat because the cravings become manageable

    Just my two cents

    eat whole foods
you cant overeat rice, cottage cheese, apples, meat and wholegrain bread (sourdough preferred)
if you can, then still, the fat (and your health) youll be wearing will be 95% better than now
full carbs and saturated animal fars are not addictive are are satiating
youll lose a couple pounds a month and be healthier eating the same amount as often as you were earlier
