    To lose weight it’s simple in theory but hard in practice. The amount of calories you take in (what you eat/drink) needs to be less than the calories you burn (how much you you energy you exert). If you have been continually overweight and gain then currently you bring in more than you burn off.
    Any type of workout, from lifting, CrossFit, yoga, Pilates, biking, running, walking, calisthenics, etc will increase the amount of calories you burn. You should look to start some/all of these to increase the amount calories you burn. If you find one you like and can stick do them just stick with that to burn the extra calories.
    More importantly, you need to reduce the amount of calories going in. Actually figure out how much you are eating and drinking (lots of people drink way to many calories, really just switch to nothing but water). Look at nutritional labels, how many calories, what is a serving size. Things like sugar, sodium, protein, etc can be important to know for determining the “healthiness” of food, but don’t really matter in terms of weight loss that much.
    If it helps to follow a diet of only eating a certain type of food, or only eating at certain times of the day then do that but the key is still calories. You can eat only junk food and still lose weight if the calories are low enough. Once you lose the weight then you can focus on overall health and determine a specific “diet”

    Eat less, move more.
    Bonus points if you eat better (less junk food, more filling food)
    Move more can be exercise, lifting, or just walking, standing more or even sleeping less if you sleep more than 8 hours. You can also try fasting for 14-16 hours if removing dinner or breakfast is easy for you.

    forget about working out unless you find it very easy - an hour of working out will be offset by one candy bar, so better save that motivation for dieting
    avoid foods that are calorically dense and not very filling - for example, never buy ice cream, avoid beverages with a caloric content too
    dont snack, try to eat only once per day, in a 30-minute window; then brush your teeth and don't eat until next day

    if nothing works, the most reliable way is to take the decision to eat out of your own hands - for example by joining the military so that others are deciding what goes into your gullet instead of you
