Unironically if you are binge drinking and/or alcoholic, get a prescription for Naltrexone.

Read up on "The Sinclair Method" and use it in conjunction with Nalt. Any physician or teledoc can write you a script and it should cost less than $1/pill.

Naltrexone completely disables your brain's ability to feel "rewards" from alcohol. It makes drinking booze as fun as drinking seltzer. You can take one per day to wean off the abuse and then take it as needed as you re-establish healthier drinking habits. Many people can wean off of it within a few months (I'm one of them!).

Ordinarily I don't recommend psychotropic drugs, but if you're abusing alcohol, it's a small price to pay for getting that addiction under control.

    Good luck out there anon

Naltrexone is boss. Helped me quit alcohol. It basically has no side affects and doesn't really "do much" to you. I also quit a lot of impulsive, reward-based behaviour on it. Stopped watching porn and masturbation, for one. It can really help you reset your brain's reward system.

I'd also recommend AA and/or SMART meetings. At least try them out for a few months, you don't have to go forever.

Start a new addiction, like meth or heroin

Meth is worse than alcohol. Heroin does less damage to your brain and body, but has a higher chance of OD'ing.

Either way, OP needs to realize that alcohol is a hard drug on par with those two. If he can't deal with the real world without getting fricked up, then at least switch to something like weed. Weed will turn him into a moron over time, but alcohol will do that too, and nuke his liver, kidneys and CNS as well

    Man idk
I don’t abuse it that hard and I strictly limit it to weekends only, but it’s crazy how hard it is to take a break
I drank a fifth of 100 proof over Friday Saturday and Sunday last weekend
It’s like pure happiness in a bottle. I feel awake, energized, happy, talkative, charismatic, and overall just so happy. It’s incredible. I like me when I’m drunk far more than me when I’m sober. But I know it’s bad.

    just stop drinking
    stop buying it
stop going places where you can drink it
    stop seeing it
stop being around friends who will drink
    stop thinking about it
    just stop

It’s hard to stop when it’s the only happiness in your life. The only thing to look forward to at the end of the week. If I don’t drink over the weekend I am depressed by Monday because the weekend felt like a waste.

You are in a downward spiral and you know it. Drug use is never more dangerous than when it's used as a reality escape. Drinking will only make things worse, so find something else to do on the weekends. Something that doesn't destroy your fricking life

Alcohol, even if you only drink on the weekend makes you more stressed the rest of the fricking week. Your threshold for stress is decreased, and your ability to feel pleasure from normal activities is reduced.

Watch this to understand how alcohol fricks you up on a molecular level, really interesting.

    Two things need to happen

You need to become disgusted with your habit. You need to actually have negative feelings when you think about reaching for the bottle.

You need to gain momentum with good habits. Mark on a calendar every day you go without drinking. Make a point to actually make an X on the day. Once you get a few days, you won't want to be forced to skip a day and break your streak.

It gets easier every day, but you have to do it.

    T. Started using drinking as a cope for stress and anxiety, took lsd, seriously pondered why I was drinking poison and harming myself in an attempt to fix something and it wasnt even working.

Find out why you're drinking and address the issue. Are you lonely? Work on building a social circle and friends. Are you using it to relax? Find different ways to relax like magnesium supplements and teas. Are you using it to hide from your problems? Stop being moronic and solve your problems. Are you using because you can't enjoy life without it? Find ways to enjoy life without it. Remember you spent your entire childhood having fun and enjoying life without alcohol, you are capable of doing it.

      >Remember you spent your entire childhood having fun and enjoying life without alcohol
I don’t remember this lol. Even my friends said the first time I got drunk I looked like I was the happiest I’ve ever been.

      >it's the only happiness in your life
then you don't actually want to stop.

Guess not. I’m gonna take a break this weekend cause I’m ashamed I drank a whole fifth last weekend.

You are in a downward spiral and you know it. Drug use is never more dangerous than when it's used as a reality escape. Drinking will only make things worse, so find something else to do on the weekends. Something that doesn't destroy your fricking life

So go out and make some more friends. Staring at a wall the entire weekend would have been a better use of your time than drinking by yourself. At least then you wouldn't actively be destroying your liver, kidneys, CNS and brain

This guy's whole mentality about drinking is that it's a shining light and he needs it. I get it, it's an addiction for him. There is a physical aspect to it but he has to change his thought process about alcohol.

I dunno, as my life improved I basically stopped drinking as it lost it's appeal. I used to get blackout drunk on the weekends, drink some wine or vodka in the week and generally just get shitfaced at any given opportunity. Got to the point where I was craving a drink first thing in the morning. Really messed with my gains and made me feel shitty in the long run
Focus on improving your life, and for the love of god find a different coping mechanism, drinking is basically the most shitty way of coping with unhappiness.

    Alcohol use disorder

I am there with you. This will be my first weekend without alcohol in almost 10 years. Everyone of which I drank until blackout. Last weekend I downed 1.75L 80p vodka over 2 nights, plus a can of 4loko. I wanted to die on Sunday. I could not sleep. Mind kept racing. I paced my room literally 1000 times for relief. I was shaking and crying on the way to work. I could feel the depression in my brain like it was a physical thing. I hit rock bottom and then dug into the bedrock below. All from binge drinking until blackout 2 nights in a row. Alcohol is fricked. I never want to touch the stuff again.

I realised i was dependant on alcohol because i have Depression and an Anxiety disorder. Got on meds and didn't touch a drink for 6 months now.

I take wellbutrin and lexapro and Pregabalin before sleep. I feel 5000000% better and can actually focus on having a life now.

Also, every med in existence is better than staying on alcohol anons. Nomatter what kind of side effects you read about, everything is better than the liquid devil israelite. Take my advise and talk to a doctor about your problems and get on medication, then figure out your life or get therapy.

I pretty much stopped with the new year. It was not like some resolution bullshit, but the NYE party was just kind of the last straw. To me, I just grew tired of drinking with the same group of people, hearing the same goddamn stories over and over and over again, then being rewarded with a hangover for all that nonsense. I'd say really think about all the things you hate about drinking before you start and don't put yourself in a situation where you are bound to drink. It's hard at the begining but it get's easier. People will understand and if they don't they aren't really worth hanging around in the first place. I don't miss it at all and live much better, even in this short space of time that I've done it.
