I've been off the news since 2019 and miraculously I didn't miss anything of importance. People usually discuss it so you end up knowing the general state of affairs anyway.
If anything important happens (the apocalypse) the signs should be obvious. Anything else is trivial and does not impact you personally.
You should be prepared for the apocalypse anyway.
It was a real eyeopener during the lockdowns to see how few people are actually prepared.
You don't have to be a preper, but like just 50 or so years ago it was still normal to have at least a few months worth of imperishable foods stocked up.
But now people blindly trust the shops will always be open.
