How do you accurately measure body fat %?

I think the online calculators are complete bullshit.

    >%BF = 3.020 + 131.637 [log(umbilicus circumference)] + {-100.299 [log(height)]}
    Use inches because it's this is the US Navy's new equation that got closest to DEXA scans and they decided not to use because it made everyone fatter than they were allowed.
    >%BF = 47.016 + 87.567 [log(circumference value)] + {-74.901 [log(height)]}
    Previous version (that calculators do for you) to cross reference.

      3.02 + (131.637(log(28)) + (−100.299(log(66)) = 11% bodyfat

        >i dont know how accurate this is
        Read his link, it says 3.68 SEE (Standard Error of the Estimate). Let's just assume 5% error.
        For 11% that'd mean you're between 10.78 and 11.55% BF or something.

          i can see my ribs but idk if its that low. i thought it couldnt get that low unless you had a lot of muscle but perhaps not

    You can't. The only way to measure body fat 100% accurately is to cut out all the possible fat from your body and measure it with a scale. Non ideal since you'd be dead. The next best thing would be a DEXA scan, water displacement, bod pod. It's not something you can get measure precisely. Those cheap body fat measuring scales at the gym that use the impedence method are decent at tracking changes. I have the scale pic rel and it tracked my bf % from 22% to 17%.

    I stopped worrying about exact numbers, just go off how you look. If you look fat then you are fat. Obsessing over numbers won't help if you still look like shit at 12% you are gonna have to keep cutting, your genetics for fat distribution means that those numbers can have a vastly different effect on your aesthetics compared to the next guy.

      But if you have to have a number get calipers if youd like I can find the ones I bought they are like the best apparently for the price and backed by some natty bodybuilding federation.

        Unless you're getting Harpendon calipers and you've actually been trained in how to use them you're wasting your money.

          "Wasting" 10 dollars on a pair of plastic calipers that do just fine to get a rough estimate is an infinitely better decision than buying a $350+ one when numbers mean nothing. A rough estimate is all you need you should be able to use a mirror after doing this stuff for almost any amount of time.

            No, they're just a literal complete waste of time. You might as well just use some sticks and tape. Skinfolds are extremely precise formula and they are not something you can self teach in a mirror because you flat out can not even mark down the right body landmarks on your own.

    Bmi== body fat

    The cheapest way is to buy calipers
    The most accurate way is a dexa scan

    You should only care about how you look/feel/how strong you are

    All the egotistical insecure self-involved closet gays that think they can micromanage the human body are the pinnacle of the word "hubris"

        Probably calipers in the hands of someone who knows how to use them. Save your money.

          you prob won't be accurate w/ calipers, they're an estimate in themselves. but if you get consistent with them you can tell changes in your bf% accurately.
