I avoid it by not being a pathetic man child
Overeating is a way to cope with anxiety. Some people do it with alcohol, drugs, materialism and other do it with food. You are doing that because something is stressing you (family, job, lack of social life, boredom, relatioship...). Identify the problem, get rid of it and change your life.
Don't be afraid if you are not happy with your current situation. You happiness goes above all.
Anxiety and depression won't go away just because you pretend they are not there. Many people learn that the hard way.
They actually do go away if you pretend they're not there hard enough.

Not really, depression and anxiety are a consequence of something. If you don't address that something you will never move on. It will slowly erode yourself.
Neither of you are capable of ignoring hard enough it seems.

Just don't, there's no fricking secret here. You simply have to make a decision not to do it, instead of justifying it by convincing yourself you didn't find out how to stop it yet. You do know how, stop, and you can stop at any moment. Get your shit together.
That said, distractions can help. People eat out of boredom a lot. If you are busy with work, dedicated to completing some kind of project or simply having fun, it's much easier to ignore or even completly forget about hunger and eating. Drink water yo fill the stomach, too.
The thing I've learned works for me is stacking the kitchen with healthy "fast food". Low cal dried flavored chips, popcorn (no oil only salt), carrot sticks+light ranch dip or som shit, frozen Greek yogurt w blueberry, egg white choco pancakes, cupcakes just to name a few
Fill first with the cleanest "fast food" and work your way.
There's also coke zero but overall you gotta be ready to counter your lazy self and stop being a binging POS, eat all your meals on time to prevent being a fat c**t mindset is everything. WAGMI

I wish I knew. Not for myself, but for my brother. He is natty and gains muscle easily. Unfortunately he eats pizza and cookies ALL the time. Just binges 18 cookies. I try to be helpful and go do cardio with him but he just keeps eating so many cookies.
