How does boxing compare to lifting? Would I need to lift in addition to boxing?

Training camp is merciless and brutal. Most people don't have the genetics to endure such harsh conditioning. I'm actually shocked that YouTube homosexual pulled it off. He's a decent fighter.
t. silver gloves champ from back in the day.
kek hyped much? you're not some olympian or SAS boot homie, just a dude doing some cardio
>Training camp is merciless and brutal.
Some of them aren't. But the true ones are brutal.
>Most people don't have the genetics to endure such harsh conditioning.
This is fricking wrong. Most people give up. You don't need to have elite genetics to get through cardio. You just need to be resilient.
>I'm actually shocked that YouTube homosexual pulled it off. He's a decent fighter.
Logan Paul is a terrible boxer. Watch his floyd fight. If your referring to his brother, Jake. He has yet to box a real boxer.
boxing is cardio. cardio kills gains. can't do both.
Fighting is 70% anaerobic, you moron.
wrong.
top 3 boxer of all time, rocky marciano (undefeated), ran a shitload every day in addition to other cardio. that's mostly what made him so good, insane stamina
Literally every fighter runs a shitload.
>I want to do an extremely technical and time intensive sport instead of just picking weights up and down a few times a week to look good
what is it with DYELs and their late bloomer sports. Box if you want to, its fun and good cardio but lifting produces consistent and measurable results if you just wanna look nice naked
it's good cardio
Is muay thai better than boxing?
replacing the punches in muay thai with boxing ones makes the whole thing better
some definitely do with great success, george foreman, evander holyfield, and mike tyson all did weightlifting in addition to the usual boxing training regimen, thought i doubt it would be more than 3 times a week
I'd say so, but not to the point that an amateur at muay thai can beat someone who is even slightly better at boxing. You'd have to be doing some legitimate scam martial art like Tai chi for that to happen
In every single way Muay Thai is better than boxing
Boxing has zero defense against kicks, it's a joke
Yeah dude mauy thai is better
>In every single way Muay Thai is better than boxing
Boxers' hands and footwork are objectively superior, and this is coming from someone who does muay thai. I just kick the shit out of their legs and try to throw knees when they're slipping and rolling but I know I would get rekt if it was boxing rules. That's why I've supplemented muay thai with boxing because most MT fighters aren't used to dealing with punches in volume.
Expect at throwing punches, moron.
Nobody is throwing kicks unless you’re in a professional fighting ring, which you aren’t.
Next you'll say nobody will suplex you unless you're on a wrestling mat
Guess how I know you've never been in a fight
Google street fight and watch the first 20 videos.
If even 3 of them have kicks in them i will paypal you money.
You are dumb btw
Less than 2 minutes in to the first result on youtube
Yes thats a muay thai kick
Definitely need muay thai to kick someone already on the ground
Keep it up
Nice moving goal posts homosexual
You said kick, not muay thai kick lmao
Either way boxing has zero defence
The thumbnail alone tells the story of the wienery boxer homosexual
Kicking you in the balls is literally the 1# most common move in a street fight lol
That's only true for people who don't know how to throw kicks. Anyone who knows how to throw kicks would do that in a street fight.
boxers literally lift? are you moronic?
I used to do MMA and I can say with confidence that although lifting and MMA compliment each other, fighting is far more difficult and will put you in far better shape.
I'm in good shape cardio wise with 6 years in muay thai but I've lost a significant amount of muscle over the years. I was 5'10", 180 lbs right before I stopped lifting and started taking MT seriously and I'm down to 155 lbs. I hate that I'm so small now. I was never intimidating but now I feel mogged all the god damn time when hanging out with my friends who lift. Yeah I can fight but that doesn't really matter.
You lost weight because you didn’t eat enough. That is not muay thai’s fault
I went through a few weight cuts and never gained it back because I felt better as a fighter the lighter I got.
It would be nice if I could lift some weights as well but I know it will never make me big. I'm a little bit disproportionate right now so lifting would be for vanity.
Tfw I'm scared to do martial arts because I'm scared of getting brain damage
You’re right to be. I did 5 years and still have weird ticks and and was way sharper in HS. Used to get headaches all the time. I was never even knocked out and can count on one hand the times I was even slightly dazed. That shit just adds up. You could just train with low intensity sparring, but if you look at all the most important styles for MMA (kickboxing, boxing, wrestling) they’re all actually really simplistic. My theory is a lot of their value comes from actually having to apply techniques on real opponents going 100%. The BS gets weeded out fast. So boxing without competing or even just hard sparring would be as useless as kung fu.
Sounds like you went to a shit gym if they let a fricking high school kid spar hard.
Of course there's always the more likely scenario in which you're simply full of shit.
You know you don't have to do a striking art? Try BJJ.
homie you can still get brain damage from BJJ or any non meme martial art for that matter
Can confirm. Got a concussion from judo. My arm got trapped and thr pther dude landed on me, could break fall at all. Fortunately it was on "tatami" flooring
>kickboxed at amateur/low level semi pro promotions between 22 and 28 years old
I can tell you with 100% certainty that if you are training the boxing at any level close to seriously you will struggle to make any gains. The amounts of cardio you will be doing will be insane, and not just that, your mindset will be different, this is maybe even more important as you will feel like the mind muscle connection is the direct opposite of the mind throwing hands fast connection. I am extremely blessed genetically at lifting. For reference pic related is me pushing 34 working horrible shifts, sleeping like shit and working out maybe max 3 times a week with no real structure. Diet wise I am eating whatever the frick my wife and kids feel like eating + some beer and weed. Back then I was eating 4.5-5k calories daily of vertical diet style monster mash meals but doing three a days of lifting/endurance/technique meant I couldn’t touch 180lbs with a pole at 6’0.
tl;dr pick one you enjoy more and do it, doing both means you are giving yourself a guarantee to not advance too far in both
>I am extremely blessed genetically at lifting.
You don't look genetically blessed. Your pec insertions are either crap or you don't work chest. Your bicep is fricking small LOL. And your pinching your waist to make it look small.
>For reference pic related is me pushing 34 working horrible shifts, sleeping like shit and working out maybe max 3 times a week with no real structure.
We can see it.
Not true my guy. Lift and do martial arts. You may need to slow down in an area around competition time, but you can certainly build muscle and do martial arts. I've seen plenty of monster mma fighters
I know a few too, the ones who take anabolics and don’t do too much cardio because epo got their back
I get what you’re saying, feeling too small isn’t nice no matter how much I could cope that I can fight
nice briefs, homosexual
Boxers lift, I will say that boxing is literally the best cardio ever. I've never been fitter
it doesn't compare. they're two different disciplines. If you want to lift then that's fine you can definitley do both but remember that it's highly unlikely you'll be GREAT at both. But as an average person frick yeah you could be in the top 5% of men in both disciplines.
Boxing imo is 90% cardio and technique man. Muscles don't mean shit if that's what you're asking. If you want to lift FOR boxing I would suggest lifting for strength but not doing SS as the high volume of squats and low rep scheme won't be directly helpful. I would work in a 8rep scheme possibly, but take my advice with a grain of salt.
Boxing is to fighting as crawling is to sprinting
That's moronic
There's a reason all those youtube morons who've never been in a fight their whole life "fight" in boxing rather than MMA or literally anything except homosexual boxing
Ignore the autistic fricks.
I'll assume you're talking about developing proficiency and being able to defend yourself against the average homosexual instigating a fight.
In that regard, think of boxing exactly like lifting. After a single year of ~4 times a week in the gym (with adequate sleep and a good diet), you mog 95% of men. 2 years, it's pretty close to 99%.
A majority of people have never even been in a fight in the same way that a majority haven't ever lifted a weight. Yes, there are a few that have fought, but nothing beyond swinging like a chimp a couple of times, just as there are some who come to the gym a couple of weeks every now and then but look just slightly less shit than the average person.
If you dedicate +3 days a week to boxing for a year, you'll be able to frick up 95% of people in a streetfight. 2 years, virtually everybody. Yes, your lifting will probably take a hit but it's worth it in the grand scheme of things. You are still more than capable of doing both assuming you work reasonable hours.
