Rangers yeah something like that. SEALs are fit in every way including strength like OP asked. Grunts and most military personnel just have to be equivalent to running a decent 5k pretty much. You’d be surprised to learn how little gains are actually needed to finish basic and do your pt runs. Entirely body weight stuff, which means it’s mostly low fat and high cardio people they create. The jacked soldier is more common than civilians but still rarer than you think.

I don't like china for how filthy and un empathetic their country is to animals, but I find it hilarious they're bullying people who thought they could "win the hearts and minds" of Chinese politicians by being nice to them. They deserve what they get, but I'd hate to live in a pod in a Chinese city.

Unironically, stop getting all your info about "what its like in China" from ridiculously biased American sources who's entire objective is to vilify them. There is a lot of stuff I thought I knew about China that was exaggerated, hand-picked info or straight up bullshit and propaganda.

I've been to Shanghai and a few rural parts. I am all for an alternative to American government, but china is not a good alternative to the west. I have very little love for their society and culture.

That is essentially what she said too. She went to a place where they were eating this fungus ear stuff (not sure what that is) and they were washing them in this river people were pissing in and it was loaded with garbage floating in it. The regime has people living in shambles and they're all too scared to say anything about it. Soulless.

I agree that China isnt the viable alternative but the culture is actually quite fantastic. Half the country is stuck in the middle ages because it's a country of 1.7B people. But it's the government that is sponsoring them to move past more archaic practices, a century ago most of Americans had dogshit plumbing as well. I think the culture is very venerable but not without flaws. It's not fair to really compare either or, only to holistically evaluate what works and what doesn't. Usually Americans think very linearly but in China, they are definitely more nuanced in how they think. I would much rather enjoy freedom to own land and weapons and speech though, at the same time.

There is no such thing as Chinese culture. It's a patched-together corpse of whatever the regime deems appropriate.
Something similar is happening in India actually, where the government is trying to consolidate thousands of years of different cults from a huge area into the one true Hinduism (which is absolutely insane)..

How is that not culture? There's a culture around gaokao just as there's a culture in the US around high school, both of which are government mandated. China controls a stricter narrative around information desemination but that doesn't stop the people from developing culture, much of which is still in China from centuries past despite multiple revolutions including the cultural revolution. If you're trying to say that the CCP controls a stronger narrative around what being Chinese *should* be I would agree, but we need to argue to what extent that is because one can argue that being a good American also has a set of government defined guidelines, such as English, patriotism, capitalism, American family values. I think there's a definite difference but it's a far cry from no culture. And I definitely have a strong aversion to the governance style of China, but most rural areas escape regulatory practices for better or for worse, I actually worked at a place in Shenzhen that delivers a NAT hole punching methods for game servers and we were shut down because it presents opportunities for fighting Chinese censorship.

legs yes, upper body width pretty much a liability if you're trying to keep in cover from like a few different simultaneous lines of fire you don't want like your delt broadcasting where you are exactly. It's a pretty farfetched scenario granted but like concealment is the best thing and the larger you are the harder that is. A much larger percentage of soldiers these days get crippled rather than killed so you'll have plenty of time to work on your arms in a wheel chair.

I was in a special operations unit in the US army. Nobody is going to care or believe me. A baseline level of strength backed up by conditioning + endurance. I would rather go on patrol with a guy that deadlifts 3 plates but can walk for 3 days and then was able to rapidly cover a few hundred meters to a guy that deadlifts 600 and his tummy hurts when it gets hot.

I wouldn't say most but if a team sergeant is cool with it and trusts his guys he will let them do whatever they want. Nah not dyel skinny. Their like Bruce lee skinny. At the end of the day the most important type of strength to them is running and the ability to carry heavy weights over distance, to the point that at least in my country selection for sf is like 80% those two things. Also I’ve heard it’s very rare for my nations sf to be on roids simply cause of they’re on a multi month reconnaissance or whatever it is incredibly hard to supply them. The anti terrorist units and such that operate from home on the other hand are juiced to the gills.

China has been like this forever since they've had civilization for way too long. Chinese civilization is replete with peasant revolts, cannibalisation, steppe people making sport of them, and bureaucracy. It kind of made this incredibly cruel but cowardly culture in which they don't care about other people but have to ritualistically beg for mercy in all sorts of situations

pretty much, if you look at the most deadly battles pre modern weapons they're almost all in china despite them losing to ever foreign invader in their history. One time I read this book about the cultural hearths for different civilizations and it included a 17th century account where a traveller described how a city of tens of thousands of people was besieged by a couple dozen bandits in like a day or two because the guards just surrendered as soon as the fighting started.

Once you can (all for 1 rep) bench in the mid-high 200s, squat in the mid-high 300s and deadlift in the 400s then anything past that is not going to do much extra for you. That base of strength is more than enough for just about anything, and you're better off maximizing your cardio and conditioning beyond that point while maintaining strength
