How is passing through BUD/S even possible?

How is passing through BUD/S even possible? I don't understand how you can go an entire week with only ~4 hours of sleep total, and running/lifting the entire time.

I have done similar training in a different branch of service. It’s hard as frick. People fall asleep when they aren’t supposed to, a lot of times it is a matter of luck if your caught. Especially when you are pulling guard in a patrol base, everyone gets really good at 1. Falling asleep on your rifle in a way that looks like you aren’t sleeping 2. Being a light sleeper so you wake the frick up when something comes near you.

Even with this you are only getting an extra 6-8 hours a week of sleep and it’s not good sleep either. People literally sleep walk and fall asleep while rucking with a pack, walk into trees, or hallucinate. It’s normal, when people are this tired it’s pretty common for the instructors to literally daisy chain everyone together with a rope if they are moving up a steep hill so no one tumbles down.

It still destroys your body, you aren’t eating much and burning loads of calories a day on little sleep. Almost all of the work is aerobic endurance. There are funny memes that get passed around about how everyone thinks they are going to look jacked after these special trainings. The result is always you go in ripped thinking you are strong, but you come out skinny fat and broken but actually strong.

I remember a long time ago watching a big multi part documentary on the discovery channel about this training. At one point they're doing a swim in the bay, and one of the instructors is on a boat watching for anyone in distress. He basically says that if anyone is drowning they'll save them, but that the only people who will pass are those who have pushed themselves to the point where they would drown if nobody rescued them, and they're ok with that because they'd rather drown than give up. So basically you have to be mentally broken.

      >pushing past the limits of your own mental matrix is "broken"
You're right anon. Neo was broken, the matrix was correct.

Not really the truth. You still have to perform. They time you on swims and runs, and if you're not hitting your times, you'll get rolled.

I used to run NCAA division 2 cross country and when I enlisted I was strongly encouraged to apply because they said I was fitter than something like 99% of applicants. I didn’t though, didn’t think the SEAL life was right for me. One of the great what ifs in my life is how my life would be different if I did. I kept hearing of how much pussy they slay.

Funny thing is that jacked guys often fail and out of shape, skinny or fat dudes can make it

Strong fat guys who run a lot make it. I’m not talking powershitting dweebs, more like 6’4 dudes who played ball in high school and got tons of conditioning. They always shed the weight and their natural frame makes hiking with a 75 lb ruck sack a breeze for them.

Also skinny guys who did cross country generally make it as well. Those guys actually have some elite leg strength if they went to any decent high school. The runs are piss easy for them so they always got plenty of gas in the tank to suck it up for whatever comes next in the day.
