How many calories do we actually need?

It has become clear to me through dieting and not losing weight that while CICO might have some truth to it the calorie needs for your height and weight are clearly a lie. My body is able to function without losing weight at 1000 calories a day, so what do all those extra 1500 calories I am prescribed for my height and weight actually do? It appears that the 2000-2500 calorie a day diet is a food industry lobby scam to get us to over eat.

Either you're miscounting or your fat cells are just getting wetter and you'll woosh soon.
Also is it legal to not accept normie money and only accept precious metals, cryptos and animal pelts?

I am not miscounting, I have crash dieted since january, I must average less than 1000 cals a day not even including the 2 weeks or so of 72 hour fasts. The main thing that makes me question the caloric needs of my height and weight is that BMR can be lowered to 1000 cals a day so isn’t that all we really need technically and anything over a thousand is caloric surplus? I have been trying to go from 15-20% to 10-12% bf so it is understandable that my weight loss is harder than a fatties but this is ridiculous, I have only lost 10 lbs.

NTA but hear me out. Look at your diet, chances are that if you eat sugar you are also putting preservatives and seed oils in your body. That will cause you to smell bad, hurt when you take dumps, have a shitty mood and no matter how much you work out you'll look the same because your body is irritated. Cut out processed sugars and then flex in front of the mirror two weeks later. If you are dealing with the addiction I had then you'll probably see improvements

CICO is such a grift for complete morons. Maybe do your research instead of parroting reddit studies.

Bros...It goes deeper than calories. You need to know how your body reacts to different foods, and that is largely an individual thing. For some people tomato is not good, for others it's rice, others it's coffee; it's hard to figure out but not impossible, check for what foods make you bloated as that may be a good indicator for what foods do not do your own individual body any good. Also, for anyone working out and not losing face fat and have weak chin or muffin top (skinnyfat) stop eating sweets or anything that has processed sugars and you'll see results in less than a month. Also mental health will improve. WAGMI

Glad you see the truth, brother. Diet defines us, ask yourself: How come there are powerlifters or sumo wrestlers that look obese yet they're athletic? Likewise why are there thin people who develop diabetes? The answer is the what, how and when they eat. Also sleep at appropriate hours is essential.

        a) cico is half truth, only the CI part is real. CO is not a thing for the 99% percentile. That means you can only count calories in, it doesn’t matter if you walk 10km or not. And before you sperg out: I don’t make the rules I just tell you the rules in an attempt of mercy so you save yourself YEARS of suffering and btw you broke after 2 months.
        b) you have no sufficient data about the change of body composition and that is especially true for a mere 2 months of dieting. Body weight is just the total it doesn’t show what happens under the hood. Weight loss is NOT (N O T) linear.
        c) „I must be..“ - show me your calorie counting journal with what food is behind every number…. You don’t have that? …

when you eat too little on a consistent basis it changes your metabolism because your body is trying to survive. this is one reason why CICO is complete bullshit, and why you're not losing weight. You need a slight caloric deficit to lose weight, too much of one won't work.

I am only eating healthy whole food, eating a single chicken breast a day with 2 ish lbs of vegetables wasn’t working so I have been vegan for 4 weeks now. 48 hours into vegan keto, 2 days before which I did a fruit fast where I ate a total of 4 apples 7 bananas and 2 grapefruit, but I feel like shit eating nothing but coconut oil and protein powder soup and mct oil and protein powder in water so I am just going back to vegetables after I fast for the next 5 days.

        1. "Actual" Calories tracked can be up to 50% off even if you weight everything to the gram and use the best data for the food.
You should primary use cico if you eat the same stuff every day so you can track how much your eating and adjust from there.

        2. The body compensates for a caloric maintenance or deficit depending on how you do it.

My maintenance calories depending on macros is literally from 2200 to 3000.
I can gain weight eating 2400 calories a day, or lose 15lbs of fat/month on 1800 simply by manipulating exercise/training and macros. And no I'm not doing cardio 8 hours a day, these are slight subtle changes you can only learn from experience.

You are almost certainly just burning muscle at an accelerated rate by under eating carbs and overtraining in the gym.

The body compensates the difference in energy by reducing body temp, reducing NEAT, making you dumber(less energy to the brain), slowing down breathing, slowing down all the other systems in the body as well including immune, muscular recovery, aerobic adaptation, blood regeneration. A lot of stuff you won't be consciously aware of.

It's easy to calculate if you assume they aren't lying about 7700 cals being equivalent to 1kg. I went from 88kg to 72kg in 5 months on a 1700 cal diet. 16kg over 150 days means I was in a 800cal deficit each day, meaning my maintenance calories is 2500/day. Considering I am quite active then I would say yeah, 2000-2500 Is fair for the average man.

    >It appears that the 2000-2500 calorie a day diet is a food industry lobby scam to get us to over eat.
Don’t let anyone else tell you otherwise! I’m very short and only lose weight eating around 600-800 calories a day. I feel like total shit if I eat anymore than that amount. My energy totally tanks. When I tell most people this they lose their fricking minds even though my tdee is only 1400. I truly believe that the “never eat under 1200 a day” is a forced meme by the food industry scrambling to keep people like me fat, pliable, and profitable. Probably is the same case with the 2000 calories a day for normal sized folk.

    >so what do all those extra 1500 calories I am prescribed for my height and weight actually do?
They keep you warm. I, like you, can maintain on 2500-3500 calories, but in order to lose weight I need to cut down to sub 1500. Conversely I really don't start to gain weight until >3500. Bodies are really good at just turning extra calories into extra body heat and at ratcheting down heat production to prevent from having to dip into fat stores.

All right, nerds. I'm back from vacation and I'm here to school you once again. Your body needs this many calories: Zero. That's right, zero Calories! Why? Calories don't exist. Food is made up of carbohydrates (sugar), fat, and protein. Your blood, organs, and muscles needs glucose (sugar) for you to survive, around 200-300g per day. You only need about 14-21g of fat and around 25-50g of protein per day which are in virtually all whole foods (except refined sugar, gelatin, and pork rinds). You don't need a single gram of "calories". Alcohol contains 7 Calories per gram. Does your body need alcohol? Of course not! It's poison! The main way to lose weight is by fueling your body with glucose, exercising your muscles, and lowering insulin resistance with a high carb diet.

      Pt. 2

Most weight gain or weight loss is controlled by your body's hormones. If you take steroids or go on a high protein, high fat, or low carb diet, you are setting your hormones up for weight gain. Fat in the diet increases cholesterol, testosterone, and estrogen, which all cause weight gain and insulin resistance. Protein in the diet is anabolic (causes weight gain). Fasting or using diet pills, caffeine, or tobacco increases your cortisol levels, which increases insulin resistance. The more insulin resistance you have, the closer you get to metabolic syndrome and diabetes.

        Anonymous

        Pt. 3
The way to reverse insulin resistance is by eating a high carb (high sugar) diet. Sugar increases insulin sensitivity. Look up the Kempner Rice Diet experiment. Rice and fruit juice diet cures type 2 diabetes. Fat in the diet paralyzes insulin and stops sugar from entering the cells, leaving you tired, hungry, and with high blood sugar. Cut out the fat and you will have more energy with less stress.

The amount of protein you need is doubled if you are on a low carb diet. The dietary recommendations you see on a nutrition label are double that amount, so it recommends 4x the amount you actually need to survive. Again, we are not talking about the maximum amount a carnivore powershitter on HGH and TRT could theoretically use, but the minimum amount needed per day for a normal person doing normal exercise with a normal diet. Glucose is used by the body to produce all of your non-essential aminos. You only need protein to repair damage or grow new tissue (anabolism), which makes it unsuitable for weight loss. Your body will only break down muscles to create new glucose if your body runs low on glycogen. A sugar deficiency will cause protein deficiency.
