How many of you believed in competition?
Then realized only the talented on steroids (people who were already superior to you who cheat) are the only ones that are the best at pro level?

All that time wasted so I could deadlift 5plates at 175lbs
Meanwhile the cheaters are lifting 7-8plates

What keeps you going? And don't say some gay b***h shit like "becoming better than yesterday" or some weak asian men philosophy garbo

Have you seen the Netflix show on how to live to your 100s healthily? None of those people lifted. It was just staying active, not eating a lot, eating nutritionally, and walking a lot.

I can tell you confidently that is 100% propaganda based on people who are outliers to begin with and not something you can repeat reliably or else medicine/athletics/fitness/longevity would have been a closed book for centuries now

I'm 6feet, chances of me living to my 100s are slim to begin with. Only manlets tend to live long. But lifting helps tremondously in keeping yourself capable and independet in old age. I'm fine with dying close my 90s, I'm not fine with losing my ability to walk or wipe my own ass

A reminder that IST used to love Chainsaw Man until it began getting official translations and blew up in popularity. Then practically overnight the entire website switched to hating it because popular thing le bad. I've seen people trying to act like Fire Punch is also bad by association, the terminal contrarianism is really that bad. If you can't clearly articulate the reason for why you dislike something, you have fallen victim to the brainrot.

Welcome to the Anglo concept of "competitive sports". Research the history of the modern Olympics, that was exactly what people wanted to avoid. Even training for the Olympics was looked down upon and nobody did it at first.

Kinda weird how everything turned out, huh?

If you don't want to cheat you don't care.

Also talent is pretty much a cope, I've trained with national champions and they couldn't do anything that made me go "woah superhuman". Talent is like that the guy is 0.01 seconds faster than you in sprinting which might mean something in competition but in real life, you're both the same speed for all intents and purposes so who the frick cares.

I'm friends with an IPF World Champion, pulled 200kg his first day in the gym at 16yo, now pulls 300kg.

It's impressive, then you remember that Jamal Browner and Thor exist.

      Echoing what

Doesn't that mean you're already talented?

      said...

Talent is both wide and deep, you are talking about the tiny differences at the margins of the upper echelon; OP is talking about Varsity talent vs All-American talent.

Sounds like you're starting to close in on how useless ego is.

Ego in the Eastern sense, where it relates to your concept of social standing and comparison.

When you start to realise the game was rigged from the start, the only winning move is to not play.

To answer your question, competition exists but isn't really that important, and people who look beyond their ego tend to compete with themselves (internalisation) or self-improve for other reasons (actualisation).

I lift because it's good for my health and I like being strong, how I look with more muscle and the additional benefits it has in my social standing, business and personal relationships.

The driving force behind this was actualisation, which gradually became what I'd call "value congruence" i.e. I behave in a way I think is in accordance with my values and ethics.

competing with other people is stupid. You should be competing against yourself to improve to be who you want to be. Other people in here have already said most of the benefits of exercise are higher quality of life, but there are diminishing returns. No one really gives a frick after a certain point what you lift. If you can deadlift 4-5-6 pl8s other lifters will find it impressive if you can get 7 pl8s. No one else really gives a frick. if your goal is just to look good for other people or for yourself you dont need to go to such absurd levels. its not about being the best or the strongest unless for some reason thats the only thing that matters to you.

I just do it for routine, as a pastime activity and to seem "fit" in comparison to the average IT gaylord normie. I walk 10000+ steps during the morning while listening to podcasts and I do bodyweight once or twice a week.
Been enjoying the walks a lot so far: no skill requirement, makes me feel healthier and less fatigued in comparison to weights, nature instead of iron, learned lots of useful and interesting information, stress relief, etc.. Lifting weights is really nothing but a meme for me now.

in terms of day to day sharpness and mental clarity, a decent amount of cardio far exceeds what lifting weights can do, mentally speaking. Something I noticed over the years. obviously do both.
