Do as much as you want. If you feel really weak(50% or less strength) eat some carbs.
I used to do a 20-30 mile loop with elevation change on my single speed(coaster) and it was fun.

About 25 kilometers at a medium pace should be about 900-1000 calories

      Anonymous

is it really? I turbo underestimate my calories of cardio. I con't each 5 miles as roughly 250, but mentally only count a 10mile ride as like 400cals burned because thats roughly 10k steps. I usually only ever eat back like 125 max to. I just severely underestimate that shit.

Not OP, I also weigh 235, so it's probably even more.

It's an estimated average based on what miband thing says. I don't know how accurate that is, but I've lost 8 kg in two months by cycling 25 km every other day, lifting every other day and intermediate fasting, so maybe.

25km at a medium pace would be closer to 500 defo not even close to 1000
      unless youre climbing

      Anonymous

doubt it. probably something like 400-600 cal.
I do 70 km with 1,500m elevation every other day and strava shows something like 1,600-1,900 cal depending on my pace.
But if you keep cycling everyday, even for short distances you'll most definitely lose weight.

If you don't have this it will allow you to more effectively use your hamstrings, calves, and glutes.
My quads go first but then I pull up hard on the backside of the stroke and it helps a ton.
Also stand, grind/pedal slowly, stand, etc.
Of course having the right gear helps too. Oh and I know your pain and I am only 220lbs. When I lost 30lbs it was amazing how much easier it was to climb. Even at sub 1000kcal.

I would get clipless if they weren't so expensive, also the shoes. Might as well start dressing in lycra, download strava and start putting cream on your butt cheeks at that point.

Depends on how you cycle. If you're just a roadster(minimal terrain and incline) try aiming for 30 minutes. An hour should be your long term goal on a deficit. Its cardio and will make you hungry af. Stay hydrated throughout.

When you want a challenge head to woodland bike trails for all the nice incline decline variations and dirt resistance. Your bike matters when you go from pavement to dirt trails. Not all bikes are made equal.

Wrong. Best time to do high intensity cardio is after a large intake of carbohydrates (fat and protein is not useful here because it’s long-term energy BUT should definitely be consumed afterwards 100% for muscle repair and fullness) Eat then wait for an hour and immediately start exercise.

That's a good way to pass out and get brain damage.

One hour cycling session burns 1,000 calories, what more do you need? It is especially good to cycle after a lifting session due to body's biochemistry (glycogen stores burned out, your body now uses fat for fuel).

Okay guys this is the perfect thread. If someone could help me out you would be amazing.

So basically I'm eating 1800 a day. The problem with this is I also plan on doing 1-3 20mile rides a day and PPL skipping cardio leg day. (I just hate being home atm) Assuming my daily intake is 2400, how much should I eat back each ride? I know it is unsustainable but I will run it until fatigue, but I want to eat back calories once it gets rough. Any help much appreciated. (Like 2miles are dirt road the rest is road with like slight incline IF that for about 2 more miles) (roughly 2 hours for 20miles)

I do need a 1k deficit. But the rest I COULD eat back if I need to

Alright, I guess I will just have to guesstimate it huh. I assume every 10 miles is like 250-500.

. This is me. I don't really count cardio huge anyways. I just don't want to be fricking dead like 2 weeks in already, I have roughly 6 months to go and in the last diet the last month was literal hell, this was without cardio too. (But I was eating like 1400 with almost 0 fat.)

I'll just mark it as if I do a 20, thats my 2lbs, anything more than that is bonus... Thanks.

I just did my final schizo check verdict.

Avg Calorie burn of a 180lb individual (my GW), is 250cals per 5 miles, this is in tandem with my 10mile 500cal "rule", so yeah I'll bike 20 and count it as 500, and for every 20 more I'll be "allowed" to eat back 500.

Not much I think. Heres my cycling weight loss experience. When I got braces I couldn't eat anything cause my teeth were sore so I lived off soup and maruchan ramen for like 2-3 weeks. My friends and I used to ride bikes around the neighborhood cause it was spring break for us and the weather was nice. Maybe 2-3 miles at most everyday to his house and back home with small detours to the park and such. Anyways, I ended up losing some weight doing this unintentionally. Lost 15 pounds in 2 weeks just from regularly riding around. So from 140 to 125 in two weeks. I imagine 1200 calories and regular riding should be enough to lose weight.

Depends on how fricked your genes are.
You have your BMR, base metabolic rate, EAT, exercise activity thermogenesis (burning of calories) and NEAT, non exercise activity thermogenesis. If you, for example, burn 1500kcal as the BMR, have a moderatly active job which burns 500kcal a day (eat) and do literally anything else but sit still you might burn an extra 200-1000kcal trough NEAT, lets say for the example its 500. Things like wiggling your leg, flexing muscles and so on are NEAT. The problem with cardio is that your body uncounciously reduces the amount of non exercise activity when you increase exercise. So if you burn 500 extra calories by cycling, your body might reduce NEAT by up to 50%(!) meaning your calorie expendature now looks like this: 1500BMR+1000EAT+250NEAT results in a diffrence of only 250 kcal more for a lot of exercise. You could have easily just eaten those 250kcal less and saved yourself a whole lotta time.
Somepeople dont reduce their NEAT at all after exercise, in which case cycling more will result in more weight loss. At the end of the day you will never ever truely know the numbers for BMR, EAT and NEAT so Id recomend to do cardio cuz its good but do not rely on it for weightloss. Remeber the golden rule: you van never never ever outtrain a bad diet.

    > Remeber the golden rule: you van never never ever outtrain a bad diet.

This is true but I will say that when I was training for Ironman 70.3, my diet was half good half bad because all the fricking training involved kept me from keeping up in the kitchen.
Anyway at the peak of my training, I was having to go through the drive thru like three days out of the week and I was still lean AF. My body was literally a furnace, consuming any and all calories. I was also doing strength in the gym 2-3 days out of the week

Does your bike weigh 35kg or something?

Wrong. Best time to do high intensity cardio is after a large intake of carbohydrates (fat and protein is not useful here because it’s long-term energy BUT should definitely be consumed afterwards 100% for muscle repair and fullness) Eat then wait for an hour and immediately start exercise.

If you’re doing low or mid intensity cardio such as walking or powerwalking with mid elevation then you can exercise without fast and eat whatever you want before

      >A recent study from the UK published in the "British Journal of Nutrition" found that when subjects were fasted during morning cardio they burned 20 percent more fat than when they had a meal beforehand. Several earlier studies show similar results.
      >Fasted cardio in the morning is effective because as you sleep and fast overnight your body conserves its precious carb stores and leans toward mobilizing fat for fuel. The story doesn't end here, however. Your body also breaks down amino acids into glucose overnight, so fasted morning cardio mobilizes more fatandpotentially more amino acids for fuel, which isn't ideal if building muscle is your primary goal. This isn't a huge problem as long as you consume a fast-digesting protein like whey, along with some slow-digesting casein, after your cardio.

        Anonymous

P.S. obviously your fasted cardio session shouldn't be as long. Maybe like 1h15min max.
