For me it's about inertia. Easy to stay sober if I've been at least a week without a drink, hard to stop again if I drink more than a couple times. What winds up happening is if I've been drinking for a bit, I'll "quit" a couple times before it sticks, then I'll be sober for at least a few weeks.

I haven’t drank since July 1, 2021. I work as a server at a Brewhouse now and it’s almost second nature to take drinks out and not even realize I had a problem. I would wake up and grab the 750 ml bottle of whiskey to feel normal. I’ll never forget January 6, 2021 when I woke up with my pancreas and liver screaming. I started a hard taper and haven’t looked back. I would get hammered at work since I did night audit at a hotel. I don’t really miss it but being sober can be miserable sometimes. That feeling when you wake up in the morning and have that coffee and realize your alive and DIDN'T throw your life away brings a tear to my eyes most days.

Seriously cut back 3 days, so its been sips of sweet liquor now before bed. I got really drunk this Thursday so I am disgusted by it atm.

Daily it would be 150ml of liquor with 100-200ml of liqueur. It's been almost a year now of straight drinking. I'm always alone after work or most nights so I drink a lot to help me sleep

I binge drink on either Friday or Saturday (10-20 drinks) each week at bars, but it’s a waste of money and I’m very aware of the slippery slope alcohol has.

My dad was an alcoholic but quit before I was born, my mom never drinks. We never had alcohol in the house growing up and still don’t. Basically brainwashed me (in a good way) that alcohol is a useless drug. I think it’s fun but if you’re relying on a substance to have fun then something needs to change.

I stopped drinking for five years but then started again at the end of 2019. I started drinking one or two beers very often, like four or five days a week, and got drunk maybe once a week. It was my way of unwinding after work, I didn't have much to look forward to at home so I'd just go straight to the bar when I finished most days. It was a really bad habit and I kept it up for a long time. Recently started drinking a lot less, I'd like to stop again completely, although I think I'd miss the occasional beer/whisky and getting a pint with friends. Alcohol is really frickin bad for you in so many ways

I like making drinks and those are pretty caloric, so I end up drinking less not to get fat. Even then I only drink a bit and never by myself. If and when I want to drink more I always plan in advance to give myself time to think about. For example this year there's a friends birthday coming up and I'll drink my fair share and in the end of the year it will mark one year of my failed marriage and on that day I'll drink until I pass out drunk.

Did a 20 day streak recently, then a 25, currently going for 30 days. Probably should give it up entirely but I'm not quite ready yet. The problem is when I do go out now after a period of abstinence, I almost always drink way too much in a single night

In July I got blackout drunk on a trip and ruined the night. Was ill and unable to keep food down for a week. Probably had really bad poisoning. The raw disgust I felt looking at any liquor after that was enough to keep me sober on it's own.
Since then I've had maybe like 2 glasses of white wine at dinners, and I nursed a single 3% beer over the span of 5 hours at a social gathering.

My parents are casual evening wine drinkers and instilled that mindset into me.
Used to have a couple glasses of wine with dinner, and maybe a beer afterwards (3 drinks over the course of 2-3 hours).
Nowadays though, I'm basically a functional (mild) alcoholic. I have at least 3 drinks every night after work (usually 5 to 6), and a bowl or two of weed. Periodically I'll also take a shot in the middle of the work day (I work from home), which is a bit worrying.
I'm not even really sure what the draw is for me. I don't really like getting drunk. I guess being slightly tipsy makes life so much less boring, so I try to maintain that feeling as much as possible

Having recently turned 25 im noticing a sharp decrease in my tolerance and increase in severity of hangovers
My first 2 years out of college i worked a truly miserable job, began drinking every day, the minute i got off work and wouldnt stop until i went to bed at midnight, often 4-7 beers a night and 7-10 on weekends.
Became severely depressed and anxious between that, the job and 5-6 hours of sleep a night
Quit the job, less depressed now, cut back to about 2 beers/day and 3-4 on weekends, usually 5-6 days a week.
Anons, if alcoholism genes are in your family, be careful. Youre still having fun and fitting in with other young people when you cross that line into problem drinking- it only becomes apparent that you have a problem when youve developed a serious addiction.
Alcohol can be very fun. Its about how you use it. One single drink can "loosen you up," give you something to do with your hands in a social setting, etc. Theres never a reason to push it too far.
Dont make drinking daily a habit. You will lose your gains, your hair, and eventually your job and your friends

    >didn't start drinking until 21 (junior year of college)
    >day it happened I buy pic related
    >get only halfway through before tapping out
    >fast forward 11 years
    >find the same cheap vodka I did the first time
    >empty the bottle without losing control
Bros do I have a problem?

About 6 days a week. In the evening I drink about 4 beers and smoke a joint. On the weekend it might be 5-6 beers and 2 joints.

Feels good man. I get 8+ hours of sleep every night and rarely get a hangover.

That strategy works really well when you're 22 and your body can handle that type of shit. By 30 you will be in hangover city

You wont get hangovers if you drink regularly.

      >consuming alcohol because you have a cold
      >will literally make your cold last twice as long because your body also has to process the alcohol
      based moron

Hard liquor can cure cold fast

Once every 1-2 months. Only problem is that I only drink hard liquor and will usually drink an entire, or almost an entire, 700ml bottle of either Jack Daniels no.7 Tennessee whiskey 40%, Johnnie Walker 40%, Smirnoff 37.5%, Wild Turkey 40.5%, or Capitan Morgan Rum 35%. I'm 105kg right now, and I'm cutting to 83kg, so I hope it will take less alcohol to get me drunk like it used to when I was that weight previously.

I dont like the next day.

Also I have a felling I already did so many shit in my life that messing with my perception for pleasure is me again wasting myself in ways I never will get back
I am 34 yo and I want to age as well as I could.

Sure if I am with friend somewhere I will drink. I did it last month and got a very energetic buzz from very little beer. Next day I was 6am inside a smoking river and all my friend totally wasted. I was proud of myself. And more than that, what is different from the last time you got drunk?
    Nothing... Its all the same.

at college, usually 3 nights a week (thursday, friday saturday). Sometimes 4.

I'm at my senior year so I'm trying to soak up absolutely as much of the fun as I can. I told myself that as soon as I get a girlfriend or graduate I'm chilling out, whichever comes first. Until then I'm constantly hunting for girls at the bars. I don't really get blacked out, just until I get decently drunk until I either get kind of quiet or all my friends leave and then I wander home by myself.

I've realized that drinking at this capacity makes me pretty depressed throughout the week. I am usually at my peak happiness thursday, after I've gotten to work out a couple of times. My hangovers have become two-day ordeals, on sunday just sleeping and sweating and rolling around in bed, being crampy and weak and then monday being slightly under the weather

I'm just ready to graduate and move so going out becomes boring. I know how to be happy sober, but I have such severe FOMO seeing all my friends out and knowing that I'll miss out on opportunity for easy and available pussy that I'll never have the chance at ever again. Going to the bars is basically the only time I have for socialization throughout the week, and I'm an extremely extroverted person. If I didn't go out I'd basically on talk to a bunch of autistic engineering students.

I try to keep drinking pretty strict to only after 6:30 Thursday, Friday, etc. so as not to let it creep earlier in the day or start doing shit like drinking in the morning. I've maintained the damage a decent amount so I'm not ashamed of my body but it's not what it used to be. I'm excited to get out and join a gym and just do that. Over the summers I would go to the gym like 5-6x a week.

IDK I think if I stayed for another year after this I'd either be on the cusp of having a serious problem. Luckily when I get drunk I don't cause problems, break shit, say rude shit, be creepy etc. I just get quiet and realize I can't hold decent conversations

Several times a week. I think the other day I was BBQing steaks and got bored so I bought two 24oz of bud light. When I'm doing a shit load of cardio I do tend to drink more beer while I'm out and about (I know, fricking degenerate as hell). If I feel like getting wasted I will grab a fifth of wine but that is a pretty rare, maybe twice a month.

When I hangout with people after work, I don’t really mind if they don’t drink. I just don’t wanna hear about how you don’t drink, or that were being loud,or even see that your not having a good time because were all drunk. Fricking mood killer, just go home then.

    >Start going to gym with mate
    >He's a big drinker since be travels a lot for work and stays away most weeks
    >Couple months pass and he gives up on gym due to being away too often and not being able to stick to a routine
    >Always inviting me out for drinks
    Bros...
I don't wanna decline since he's the only mate I actually hang out with and he's a good lad. But every week I'm falling off the gym wagon and skipping days to go drinking.

Unless you are only physically able to gym in the evening, going out with your pal shouldn't really hurt your gains too much.
Friends are important too man. As long as he isn't convincing you to get annihilated drunk constantly, you're good.

If I'm not smoking weed, I'll have a bottle of Coors a day, just to have something to "take the edge off" the day to day misery of being a wagie.
This is usually enough to give me a bit of a buzz, because I'm woefully skinny so I don't spend too much on it. Or considerably less than I would on weed.
