Yes. Be sure to drop the barbell on your neck.

This is for emergencies. If you start doing this for every set you’ll be asked to kindly leave

Okay well if you're at a real gym, use the safety bars.

And if you're at a gym, and the bench doesn't have safety bars, that gym is ass and you should find another one/build your own.

get a rack with safeties. you might lose 1 inch of ROM but its worth not dying like a weakling

You don't wait to fail, you realize you're struggling to get past half way and then you push the bar toward your feet and sit up, cradling it in your lap while you get your breath back. Don't pursue the max weight you can possibly lift (unless you have safeties, a buddy etc), go with a weight that you can manage but do enough reps until your muscles are screaming.

Get a spotterr or use lighter weight and go for 100 reps.

Figured it beats making a new thread
I am a gym noob and can only do 1x3 of 1pl8. Do I just try for 1x4 every other day until I hit it or work on more reps of lower weight and then try 1pl8 again later?

I was going to type that unless you're benching 315 and above then it would matter but, knowing IST and the calibre of lifters you're probably stuck at 1 plate claiming you can't grow for the simple reason you don't track calories.

Here's a tip. If you had to ask that question to begin with on IST then ya it's probably best you gently place your head on a bench and tell someone to drop the bar on the back or your pencil neck

I like dumbbell bench because I can tuck them into my abdomen and sit up

Honestly just use dumbells if you want to push it and have no spotter, safeties and you're incapable to roll of shame

For whatever reason I can go way heavier with dumbells than with bench press. Im relatively new but can dumb bell press 65+ for reps and super set it. But can barely bench 1 pl8.
I've done dumb bell press a lot more, could it just be my motor pathways aren't built for bench press because I rarely do it?
      Has anyone else experienced this?
I feel like a pussy not being able to bench well.

keep trying for more reps at same weight. Once you get to 6 clean reps move up in weight. Google progressive overload

This. But barely getting the weight up counts as failure to me so I rarely use the safety bars.

      >tracking calories
What the frick does that even mean? You build muscle by going to failure and eating protein. Lifting the barbell until you are kinda tired and then eating a celery stick doesn’t mean shit

By the way my chest gains exploded when I switched to dumbbells and chest machines with weights that let me go to my actual point of failure
