I have constant nose and throat mucus and it won’t go away. Doctors gave no medicine said just live with it. Can diet cure it?

corticosteroids, no it's not the traditional ''steroid'' for muscle.

      > Corticosteroids, often known as steroids, are an anti-inflammatory medicine prescribed for a wide range of conditions.
Is there a way to just have zero inflammation by not eating sugar or something?

Throw away the medication - its just shit to hide the symptoms.

Interesting, my family kept telling me to avoid dairy by saying it makes mucus worse. I’ll order oregano oil

have you ever tested for allergies?

Yeah they tested my blood for that but it just said I was allergic to cats (I don’t have a cat). There were some mild allergies to certain plants but not enough to cause all of this

Nice that’s the one I ordered

ive seen those a lot online and heard good things. seems like cheap fix to get started with. first make sure the filters in your house hvac system are clean.
my boss runs ozone machines & ionic air filters & UV cleaners.
ionic filters, they release negative ions into air which allegedly attach to other particles and genocide them. ozone releases an o3 oxygen molecule which allegedly does the same thing. i was skeptical before and thought most of this stuff was a trick. but the air "tastes" different in the office, and it has some positive effect on my sinusitis. all these technologies/devices are steeply discounted on the 2nd hand/used markets.

I’m sure some of the filter stuff is scammy but other is real science and makes the air better. The most extreme one are those ozone machines that kill everything in the air. I think they have to run it when no people are inside though

youre right. most units are ran for hours and youre not allowed in the same room.
many units i see now have various timers eg: run for 10 minutes on - 50 minutes off.
the cleaner the house the better. the "ozone" smell apparently comes from the dead skin cells and dirt/dust or other organic material that is lying around after the o3 molecule attaches.
last week i was gifted some oregano oil capsules. said they conflicted with his gut. i read they were a good anti-histamine. someone on another fit thread said they were part of a parasite-cleanse formula. i keep seeing ioregano oil show up in random threads this week.

Sugar is the without comparison best food for reducing inflammation (despite what the media keeps saying). Next time you are creating a lot of mucus, try drinking two glasses of orange juice and relaxing for 10 minutes. It will disapear, guarantee it. The reason for your mucus production in the first place is probably stress created from a low sugar high pufa diet.

Is it just a mucus problem? Try a neti pot or nasal irrigation. Basically just flushing your entire nose with salt water. You'd be surprised at how much mucus has accumulated.

Yeah they tested my blood for that but it just said I was allergic to cats (I don’t have a cat). There were some mild allergies to certain plants but not enough to cause all of this

Have it for 15 years now, done two surgeries so far because of polyps and even got osteitis after some time. There isn't much you can do besides corticosteroids and daily use of a neti poti, which really helps. Also go to a doc and check if you have some allergies.
Life is suffering, welcome to the club.

you might have some undetected allergy or what not, if you wanna give it a try, do the following

buy an air purifier (ikea sells some nice ones, and they're good even for non allergic folk), keep it running in your bedroom 24/7

put new sheets on the bed, new pijamas

if you didn't use to shower before bed, start taking showers (just water is fine) washing your face/hands/head well, the idea is to "clean" you and your sleeping area from anything that might be messing with you

also try out what some anons said here about stopping eating some kinds of foods, bowel irritation and shit can have consequences in all kinds of places in the body..

      t. someone who thought they had chronic sinusitis, but it passed doing the same (I'm also allergic to some things, so there's that)

Nice that gives me hope. From my blood tests I’m not allergic at all to dust mites, so I know it’s not that at least. Going to order an air purifier now. I’m paranoid there’s mold in the walls that nobody can detect

also do you have a deviated septum?

wash your sheets and pillow cases like every 3 days too.
honestly for me what worked is sinus irrigation plus keeping the sleeping area very clean and dust/allergen free. no nasal corticosteroid sprays or allergy medications ever did shit for me. Xlear helped a little bit which im pretty sure is an oregano oil and xylitol based spray

besides doing this, I always sleep sideways, with the side that breathes better facing up, which unclogs itself with gravity and makes me sleep so much better

          Anonymous

          >also do you have a deviated septum?
Yeah I think they said one side was a bit uneven possibly causing issues so they adjusted it in surgery. I guess that means it’s fixed. My nostrils were crooked for a while afterwards

wash your sheets and pillow cases like every 3 days too.

I will try but I think the problem is mainly within my body now and clean sheets won’t help much. Worth a shot though

I tried it once and it seemed like it just irritated everything and made it worse. Maybe if I do it every day it would be better

I bought some NAC powder recently but just need to get some small scales to weight it out. Was hoping it would help with blocked nose, post nasal drip and always waking up having to clear throat. Cant cough anything up, just losen to clear. Always see white crap stuck to back wall of throat.

I need to see a doctorc ant blow nose, but can clear from one side to the other by leaning head in a sort of way. Feels good when you can feel the pressure building up then it starts clicking and popping as it frees up. Still have one side that's blocks up more, and cheek is always hot on that side. Might be sinusitis or infection you think? Nasal spray helps and I can breathe like a champion afterwards, but I only use that for special occasions ha

I referred a patient to ENT a while back and got some advise back. Off the top of my head they suggested the following:

    1) Daily use of a steroid nasal spray, preferably mometasone, for 6 weeks.
    2) Twice daily (at least) use of a nasal douche, they suggested isotonic NeilMed sinus rinse administered in the “bent forward, head down position”. They suggest this as a long term practice, ideally before applying anything else in your nostrils.
    3) twice daily use of flixonase (fluticasone proprionate) nasules each nostril for 7 days.

If you do this you should apparently see some improvement, if not I’d get your doctor to refer you for a sinus CT scan and consideration of a FESS procedure under ENT.

      >CT scan and consideration of a FESS procedure under ENT.
Already did that, the surgery helped a bit but not for long. I haven’t been doing anything to my nose with me medicine or rinses though so I can try that stuff

Yeah, from what I understand some people only get limited benefit which sucks. In fairness the ENT consultant put more faith in the other stuff 8 suggested.

Im 95% sure this is what I have had the past few years. Not sure if it the dust or mold in my house or, my deviated septum, a sinus infection, GERD related? Its a b***h, was supposed to have a cat scan done of my sinus a while back but didnt want to go near the hospitals at this time. Just been trying to self manage. It does seem better if i cut our dairy and coffee, but sleep suffers when your constantly stuffy

i've had chronic sinusitis for ten years
tried the netti pot, navage, wide range of RX & otc drugs -- all bunk
looked at surgeries -- seems 50% of people end up worse or no change.
best thing is just experiment with your diet. some foods trigger it hard. for me it's too much coffee chocolate milk and sweets
ive got it under control for most part. the worst part is nasal turbinates swelling. i still hawk up big loogie every few hours. just part of life at this point.
i started a new job at this office that has thousands of dollars worth of air purifying machines. ive noticed an improvement there. my loogies are less frequent but much bigger in volume anytime im there. could be something to it.

many times i meditated, repeating mantras in my head like "i can breathe clearly, my nasal cavities are pure". silly stuff like that. after 15 minutes i could feel & hear my nasal cavity "pop". it removed the symptoms instantly for a couple hours. worth a shot if youre one of those people who've truly tried everything with no help.

    You should consider moving honestly.
I've lived half my life in pennsylvania and the other in richmond, VA.
in richmond, no matter what supplement, diet, or routine I tried the allergies will randomly pop up and make my day hellish.
In pennsylvania I could sleep 5 hours, wake up and immediately drink milk, go outside and lick a tree and roll around in some grass and I would be fine.
Surely it's something in the air or water but I don't know.

Someone recommended a massive dose of vitamin C after i had a cold that stuck around in my sinuses for a few months, i never tried it myself but the person who recommended it to me was a physician

They said to take a gram of vit C every hour until you begin to feel nauseous then stop

I looked into this a bit because i was skeptical but it seems to have some merit as it can inhibit the growth of and degrade biofilm that bacteria use to shield themselves especially in large colonies.
It might not work as a cure but it might reduce symptoms or allow other treatments to work better.
