It's really up to you if you can really push your hr with jump rope. 8-10x 40-50 second bursts of 80%+ max safe hr with intervals between of light jump rope until it falls down blow 60%. For that 3 days a week. If you're doing it like most cardio 15 solid minutes a day in the 60-80% range or 20-30 in the 40-60%. If you're just doing cardio because it's obligatory 5 minutes in the 60-80% range is enough if you lift because lifting is vascular stimulation.

I like to time my sets. My gym has a big digital clock that counts seconds so i use that.

    2 feet x 1
    1 foot x 30/x30 seconds alternate feet
    Double skips x 1 min
    Cross arm skips x 1min
    Step up/sidestep x 1min

I do this for about 20 minutes and take frequent water breaks and smaller stretching intervals.

    It's great!

im a fat bloke so i'm mindful of shin and ankle injuries but I do it for boxing and I usually do 4 or 5 sets of 4 minute rounds, alternating between doing rounds of a fast basic bounce and slower rounds doing one foot hopping, boxer stepping, etc.

Numerical goals broken down into sets and then aim for fewer sets.
    Example: 1000 skips per day
    Week 1, 10 x 100
    Week 2, 9 x 111
    Week 3, 8 x 125

Just time your jumping or count tour jumps. Increase both slowly throughout several days.

I just began jumping but I really like the idea of weighted ropes. I recently saw a video where jumping with a 3lb rope burns just under 2x the calories of a 1/4lb rope.

Since I am just begining I am doing a pyamid scheme.

    1/4lb
    1/2lb
    1 lb
    1/2lb
    1/4lb

I have been working my way up 15 with an extra 15 seconds per set (my last set was 4.5m and tomorrow I will be doing the 2lb rope but i will be taking my set time down to 3m

    So it will look like

    1/4lb
    1/2lb
    1 lb
    2 lb
    1 l b
    1/2 lb
    1/4 lb

I'll march the time up as before, adding 15 sec each seconds before I feel good enough to go to 3lbs (rope is in the mail).
