Periodize training, lift off season and focus on fighting when you're closer to competing. theres probably a program out there for that

You can do calisthenics before/after workouts. Barbell type heavy lifting shit is just for beauty and will make you a worse fighter. You need longer sleep at night and take a nap in the day.

Kick rocks roid troony. In Thailand they train kickboxing 12x a week plus 15km run 6x a week. Op has a normal hobbyist wanting to go amateur schedule.

        >Barbell type heavy lifting shit is just for beauty and will make you a worse fighter
I notice this mentality is common among fighting guys, dunno why that is. Sprinters squat heavy to sprint faster, Basketball and NFL players also lift to increase explosiveness and force production, why would fighting be different?

          Anonymous

It taxes your nervous system and is time you could be training or sparring. Also fighting has weight classes. You wanna go up and fight people above you? We strength train with calisthenics, dumbells, gymnastics. MMA and striking are a different animal to football etc.

            Anonymous

Gymnastics is more technically difficult to learn and taxing than doing a few cleans and didlys off season though. I have a hard time believing that any athlete who needs to be explosive wont benefit from that. This kid does BJJ and strength trains with barbell lifts and olympic lifts https://www.instagram.com/tackett.andrew/

              Anonymous

I meant gymnastics type exercises. I personally don't do them the Firas Zahabi and a few other high level mma coaches recommend them instead of barbell training. I assume they mean some components of gymnastics training not legit learning to swing around the bar or whatever lol.
Yeah a bjj only guy will totally. Pure grappling isn't striking or mma. Pure grappler can totally benefit from Sl or ss or whatever heavy barbell routines. Professional strikers and mma guys don't do that for a reason but a BJJ only guy or a wrestling only guy can totally benefit from it.
In mma and striking it is a tradeoff. I spar with lifters all the time and I can slap them around because not only do I spend more time training, I have a bigger gas tank. Yeah they could put me to sleep with a good hit but they can't land them and gas quickly.
When I get older and retire from fighting I'll probably trade 3 of my striking trainings for lifting for health and looking good and being better in bjj.

Look up the types of PED stacks the pro mma fighters run. Yes they all cycle. A lot of compounds available now that don’t show up on tests after a day or two. And the stacks will be aimed at recovery to allow training for hours every day, without anything that will reduce cardio capacity.

No he's 100% right. Every elite MMA coach will tell you that you can't bodybuild and fight. Calisthenics, gymnastics, and lighter Dumbell type stuff can be integrated but that PR, lift your max, heavy compound shit you guys do is not going to help op. It kills gains.

Just because heavy lifting is good for pure grapplers doesn't make it good for stiking or mma. None of the best fighters lift heavy and the only examples you can point to were on enough steroids to not need to lift heavy.

OK? And? Wrestling isn't fighting. It is great and cool you do it but it doesn't mean you know anything about fighting and a striker could sleep you on your feet and a grappler could sleep you after the takedown. Who cares that you used to do Wrestling? You don't fight. You couldn't beat a fighter. Stay in your lane. If you gave advice only on wrestling which you do know, people would respect you and think your cool. Instead you insult people and tell them things that aren't applicable to another sport.

Similar volume of training as you. A few things helped.

        1. Figure out what your goals are. Are you in a competition cycle where you're training at 90-100% intensity at every session? If so, are which of the three is taking the backseat during this cycle. You want to arrive to your comp peaking whether its for MT or BJJ.

        2. Learn how to sleep better. Sleep is fricking king. Nap in the afternoon, nap whenever you can. Create a routine that allows you to sleep as long as your body needs at night. No phone, no alcohol, taking a cold shower, etc...

        3. Get a nutritionist that understands the needs of an athlete and your goals. You don't want to be shredded all the time. They will help you set up your meals for the volume and intensity of your current cycle of training.

i want to focus on prevetative things like knees over toes and shoulder shit not to get injured too badly. Working on sleep right now chef! unfortuantly i cant nap because i work full time but as soon as fight camps start ill take off

Collagen is the only supplement that speeds up my recovery (especially after injuring my wrists/knuckles), but it's pretty expensive.

        will take a look

You have to sacrifice something to get another thing. Youll need steroids to train full time and lift.

If i were you, I would just keep training martial arts for 5 years consistently until your body is pretty well adapted to it, then titrate in lifting slowly.

You need to have some technique only classes with no focus on cardio or strength. You don't need to do cardio and strength every day. Take one day when you only do shadowboxing. Then you can add some strength training the day before.

the only way is to provide your body with more energy, the more you eat the more is available for repair, you can push growth factors really high if you eat alot, i cant say you wont gain any fat, but you will immediately notice a difference if you eat more food , particularly carbs. whih not only provide energy, but also stimulate growth factors like igf1.

Honestly Op, I wanted to be a pro fighter one day. Kicked all my bad habits cleaned up my diet and would do Muay Thai and BRazilian Jiujitsu everyday for combined 4-6 hours. That’s when I learned that no matter how much will power I had the body didn’t give a frick. I was at my limit. I said na g, will power baby I quit smoking and changed my life I could do this. Then I got injured. That was my body telling me to stop being a homosexual. I was eating 4-5x a day and I think I learned what catabolism or whatever they call it, felt like. Muscles felt over burnt to the point of feeling rusty and I was still losing weight. There are those who say you can’t outwork a bad diet, 97-99% the time, yeah but if you train like a madman that’s horseshit. Your body will be so depleted and begging for calories that you’ll have to eat trash to get it. Sorry to rant on but that’s when I learned that you have to take performance enhancing drugs at that level to compete. Your situation doesn’t sound as bad to be honest. Eat more and rest a lot.

Gotta build up to it can't just do it all at once have you held that training schedule for 6months? If not don't even bother trying to add more to the workload

At most you should be doing a lot of yoga and mobility work after training to facilitate recovery

ALSO you can train that way just don't go all out its all about technique in training

You cant. I do 2h mma 6 days a week and TRY to do 1h cardio or 1h lifting 5 days a week. I also cant overeat to stay in weight for future fights. So I'm always skelly, always tired (8h of sleep and 2h of naps daily at least) and often in a sour mood.
Embrace the skelly mode or embrace the roids. I took the former since I could be tested.
