      you hang on the bar but the bar is on bearings so it rotates. the key is to not move that much and use your wrist flexibility so you're not constantly fighting the rotation

    The bar rotates. If alternating grip is allowed (it usually isn't), use it. If not, use hook grip. You usually need to hang for 2 minutes, so after 1 minute mark you have to lower one of your arms from time to time and shake to fill it with blood. Most people fail because the outflow of blood makes their grip much weaker than it actually is.

      you can't just hook grip out of the blue and expect to win... hook grip fricking hurts if you've never done it before and not used to the strain on thumb. You can't even correct hook the bar because the bar is thick. so unless you're 6ft+ and have proprotional big hands hook grip isn't the answer

    I tried this a few weeks ago at the fair. the bar actually didn't rotate much but at a certain point I felt my fingers opening up on their own and when I went to tighten my grip I couldn't actually flex the muscles in my hand. it's purely an endurance thing.

    Depending how thick the bar is hook grip. Preferably mixed hook grip like pic related. Even if the bar rotates you'll maintain strength in one hand.

      a bunch of climber youtube channels have already gone over this
      the bar spins which makes it way fricking harder even if you can easily dead hang for that length of time already

      you can't use mixed grip at one of these things
      really the only way to do it is if you really flex your forearms for stability, which gets harder and harder as time goes on.
