The proportions are accurate, they wouldn't be able to carve that without a model

Anon, that statue is very clearly not from ancient Greece.

It is, in fact, from c1800 and it's at the louvre

        https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Relief_Heracles_cour_Carree_Louvre.jpg

Furthermore, it's also not anatonically perfect, the pecs and bicep do not flow correctly. There is good detailing on the forearms, although the abs don't quite look right - it's plausible a person can do this position, but they can't hold it long enough to be a model

Basically, this is art, not anatomy. And it's in the wrong period by over 2000 years, so even if it's based on a model (which it isn't, it's based on knowing how fit young men look and extrapolating like how Yujiro Hanma is depicted in realistic detail but is also super human) it would only prove that early 19th century French people were fricking jacked

To make it short, some (I mean only a few) are just propaganda but in general a lot of people were buffed at the time, lot of manual labor(not even farmer consider even an artist that has to take his own stone slab before sculpting), lot of walking, Diet based on veggies and fruits and on occasion meats, usually the poorer person ate porridge and fruits. So it was normal that people were "buffed" or Well built.

          Greek anon here.
Plato ("Πλάτωνας" in greek) comes from the word "" Πλατής" which means wide.
It was probably a nickname for his wide forehead.

Actual greek anon here to correct the albanian larper. The word is «πλατύς» and it was mostly his chest that was wide enough for everyone to call him that.
