I'm a relatively IST guy and these are impossible. Maybe it's the timing but i'm too moronic. Good luck, op. Post video if you get it, you colossal homosexual.
whats your max weighted pullup?
My max is 35kg for reps and I can't do this, kek.
Embarrassing moment that I'm calisthenics gay and I can't do any "trick". Even front lever or handstand push ups that are very useful ones (hypertrophy wise)
lmao, then you're not really IST. Train explosive pullups to be able to transition on muscleups on bars. If you want controlled ones, then learn false grip on rings
can you get up from a pool without the stairs IF the water is not up to the pool edge? it's kinda a similar movement
Im fat and I can do those. Train harder.
When I set out to learn this (and succeeded) I discovered it was as much technique as it is power. Watch videos from different angles, and slow them down if you need to, to see how people do it.
Good luck anon
seconded. I was always amazed at my buddy crankin these out and would cope by saying "oh I could do that too if I was 120lbs". He would always fire back saying im just a b***h etc. Turns out I was a b***h, because I trained hard for about 3 months on plyo-style pullups and one day it just clicked and I got a muscle up. They are very enjoyable to do, and will impress just about anyone
what if I refuse to use technique and just want to brute force it. What muscles would I need to train?
I doubt you could brute force it, but you're welcome to try and share your results with us.
As far as I understand, it would require mostly lats, biceps, lower pecs, triceps, as well as traps, rear delts, and forearms (flexing your wrist down).
Based new years resolution
I've been working on pullups recently, went from 0 to 4 since incorporating negatives in my back day. Once I'm able to hit 10 in a set I'll start working on muscle ups.
See you in a year OP
use a band or assisted pullup machine for a bit. i know it feels lame but it's way better than struggling
Looks like fun, use bands so there is an extra fun low % chance that they slingshot you into the sky.
I have no fricking idea how this should be possible. I do weighted pullups with 1pl8 for 3x10 and i can't do a single one of these without kipping. What's the catch? Is it because I'm tall and never do a full dead hang, but always have to bend my legs at my knees to 90 degrees so as not to touch the floor? How do i make it a fluid motion and not a two-part, "get your chest above the bar, then push yourself up" thing? Help me calisthenics bros.
Make this part of your routine.
Explosive pull up from a dead hang as high as you can 3x9
Take 20 to 30 second test in between sets. The first sets should be easy, last, couple should be a struggle. But really, try to make the concentric as explosively as you can make it
It's probably just a technique thing. Either that or just lose some weight. I couldn't do these for the longest time and then I repped out like 5.
Kek, I made a bet with a guy this year about who could do one first. I haven’t tried one in a couple years and when I did try them I always failed miserably.
Anyways, I repped a couple out on my rings and also the bar that same day. How? For the past year my goal has been the one armed pull up so my pulling strength was already there. It just took me a couple triesto get the technique down.
So some advice for anybody who can’t get it…. You’re probably strong, but not quite strong and explosive enough to get it. There’s a technique aspect to it, but it’s not that big.
I think you need 3 types of strength for a muscle up:
* vertical pull
* transition
* dip
It's fairly easy to get enough vertical pull and dip strength but the transition strength is an under-used set of muscles. Of course extra explosive pull strength can compensate to make the transition easiser.
Yeah, I agree. I think the lions share of training needs to be the pull up. These dudes on Instagram training the transition a bunch I think are wasting their time. The transition will come if you have the strength to get there.
Idk how hard dips are for the average person, I’m doing free standing handstand push-ups, so I’m not a good judge of pushing difficulty. But I assume the dip is never the limiting factor for the muscle up
untrained people often can't do a single pullup but I bet they can do a couple of dips (as long as they are not obese)
I cant do this.
My max pull up is +40kg (+90lb)
but that's a huge pull up, surely you can do a muscle up if you try with the "false grip" and swing a bit
Yea most people who can do few clean and smooth muscle ups also can pull up 50-60% of their bodyweight.
From my experience muscle ups carryover weight pull ups, but vice versa doesn't work, you can rep 5 times half of your bodyweight, but still unable to do muscle up unless you specially train for it.
I can’t figure them out. My pull up game is strong because I do weighted pull ups on pull day but I can’t quite figure out how to get up past parallel
just be explosive to the point that you get into a dip position
you cant go through the bar, you have to go around it, so you can need to swing forwards a little then pull yourself diagonally up and back in order to get around the bar. You also need a 'false grip' in order to be able to enter the dip
based those and kettlebell windmills are my things for 23.
the way she does the transition makes this look unnatural, how fricking strong do you have to be to do this? what muscles is she even using?
She's like 45kg anon it's easier when you're skinnier and shorter than big and tall
look at how big her frickin triceps are, they're wider than her biceps.
she's so smooth and controlled, i'm mirin.
Man, I hate being mogged like this. I can do heavy lifts for the big 4 + heavy farmer's walks but struggle to even do a single muscle up.
sarms, man. shits crazy
>3 feet tall
>all arms
>sarms
They key are the legs, see how she goes diagonal from the bar instead of directly upwards in a 90° angle, it's more shoulder/tricep strength than anything else
Learn to do rings muscle up instead, bar muscle Will frick up your shoulders
What the frick is this weird ass hold they use, where their wrist is on the bar. How do you even get your wrist into this position? Are you supposed to jump and reach over the bar or do you stand on something to place your hands in this position
found the manlet
So what about it?
Bet i could do one now that i know it's not a pull up grip.
it's called false grip, easier on rings than a bar
That just looks like a case of
>I cant draw hands homie
I'm comparatively DYEL and I can do these but I also go rock climbing which I guess might be better cross training than pure pull ups.
HELLO ANON, I AM GOING TO GIVE YOU SOME TIPS FOR ACHIEVING THE MUSCLE UP
>when you swing to the furthest point just before you start to swing back, make sure that you’re slightly leaning back, like pic related. this will help you come up in a diagonal fashion which will allow you to ascend above the bar. if you try going up without leaning back as if you were doing a pull up, you will not be able to ascend above the bar.
>when you reach the furthest point before you swing back, drop your body weight slightly so you “sink down” a little bit. when you swing back and try to explode above the bar, this will give you extra power/momentum
>study other people doing muscle ups on youtube / instagram / tiktok so you can ingest the techniques in a way that you understand. monkey see, monkey do.
I HOPE THESE TIPS HELP YOU IN YOUR JOURNEY TO ACHIEVING THE MUSCLE UP, GOOD LUCK
my muscle ups went from 6 reps no kip at 90kg to only 1 rep no kip at 100kg. my weighted pull up stayed at +50kg at both
Anon it is not thaaat hard but be carefull I got some minor pain in my left shoulder from progressing to that.
(Reached 3 not clean muscle ups and eventualy stopped)
>can do weighted pull ups 3 x 5 with 20 lbs
>can't do a muscle up
Go on without me bros...
To the advanced calisthenics bros here, is the weighted pull up = deadlift/muscle up = clean comparison accurate? One is more of a brute strength movement while the other is more of a power and technique movement?
Be careful OP. Repeatedly failing muscle ups will very likely cause an elbow injury. Happened to me and many others. Doesn't happen with other exercises because you're not just gonna walk into the gym and fail 10 bench presses, but that can very well happen with these. If you go for a muscle up and don't get it, don't try again that day.
How risky for injury are muscle ups anyway? Elbow, rotator cuff, wrists?
Who has a good progression and technique guide
>kids playing around on the jungle gym can easily do this
>roid addict gymrats who lift weights every day literally can not
Explain yourselves
I deadlift in the 500s. Why would I care about an exercise made for skellies.
Fatty boom boom cant even literally lift his own weight lmfao.
Fat powersharter cope
Anon post this next Christmas with the same image for i will have learned to do them to
Stop posting cursed images you garbage
I got them by doing the most powerful pull ups I could
powerful as in, as fast and high as possible?
How does no one know the trick? Read into holding the bar with a "false grip".
I always assumed that the kipping/explosive version was easier than the dead stop false grip version.
Do you really count the kipping, easy version as achieving a muscle up? Come now brother anon.. What would you Abah think?
Not OP but I also decided to start training because of this post. I was able to do the false grip pull up. Stupid gym doesn't have any straight bars, except for the cable rack. So I could only knee sit and I was afraid of banging my knees into the rack. But that's not bad for a starting point.
Can i use these angled pull up bars as an alternative or should it be a straight bar? All the bids I've seen had people using straight bars
