I am tired of this meme that lifting somehow makes you a better person.

Lifting is "self improvement" in the same as getting a tan is. It makes you more attractive (to vain people), both aesthetically and because it demonstrates that you have a lot of free time. It's a SYMPTOM of success, not the cause.
If you are underachieving IRL, lifting will do nothing to address any real issues in your life. The real solutions are actually to get an education of some kind, be it university or a trade. These have a far greater chance of bringing you both material and inner success than lifting ever did.
Everyone who says otherwise is just acting on sunken cost fallacy.

I do. I have nothing else going for me. I have marketable skills but I have no motivation to be a part of society. There's nothing out there for me.

Those are all problems and lifting fixes none of them, glad we agree.

It doesn't fix them but at least I'm contributing to myself in some way and it gives me just enough hope to keep going

You are not contributing, that's the point. At least not any more than going to a nail salon would.

            >You are not contributing, that's the point
But you are. Improving your physical health via exercise makes you feel better in many regards - you get more quality sleep, are less tired and more alert, the intensity anxiety and other negative emotional states goes down because it releases endorphins and over all fixes your body up so as to make you feel better. Hence it's productive by itself, unless you don't consider feeling healthy and fresh valuable for some reason. If you're one of those "but muh money" people then lifting still helps that as all the aforementioned benefits resulting in a fitter brain and body make it more effective at doing whatever your "actual productive behaviors" are. Plus it instills discipline, which, once again, is valuable in other "productive" endeavors.

1/10 for getting rubes to reply. If not troll, mad levels of copium from someone suffering a severe case of NGMI.

It cannot be fixed tho, capitalism sucks and is here to stay. It's easier to imagine end of world than end of capitalism.

Lifting taught me discipline, taught me to work hard and taught me that effort leads to results. It wasn't some magical life fixer, but there's no way that I could have applied my self to education before lifting.

This is a pretty entry level perspective on the matter. But god job at getting to that point. Another 5 years and you might be able to understand it with more nuance.

lmao @ implying these are equivalent

you really think a guy who fixes radiators for a living is equal to someone who has a MSc in Artificial intelligence?

No. The guy actually doing something concrete is far above that useless creep that contributes nothing to society other than his pseudo-intellectual. i have far more respect for the commoners that truly run this country

Kys and herbs, doomer. Lifting releases endorphins which give you a more positive outlook and cure depression. A more fit body is attractive to everyone, not just vain people. Regular physical activity is proven to help regulate your brain chemistry. And, of course, being better able to win a fight or move heavy things has very tangible benefits. Nobody ever said lifting weights alone would fix everything in your life, but it's foundational.
You're just a lazy homosexual trying to bring us down to your miserable level.

    >Lifting is "self improvement" in the same as getting a tan is
Lifting requires a medium level of planning, consistency and patience, I don't think it "teaches people discipline" because there are infinite ways a regularly lifting person could slack (bad form/bad meals/lifting below his potential etc)

    >In the same way as getting a tan is
getting a tan is an effort free activity that can be done way quicker, although you're already NGMI if you're doing either of these activities for the validation of other people

    >lifting will do nothing to address any real issues in your life. The real solutions are actually to get an education of some kind, be it university or a trade. These have a far greater chance of bringing you both material and inner success than lifting ever did
none of these activities are mutually exclusive, no one quits college so they can start lifting or vice versa

you've got the right idea up to this point.
what kind of fantasy land you live in where skills and knowledge are proportionally rewarded on terms of material wealth? the only skill you need is to pretend to be skilful and sell that image. just look at all the morons that became millionaires.
getting a qualification will only turn you into a wageslave. and when that happens forget about inner success, because now you're a full-time employee, and only things that can be quantised by the HR department is personal growth.

unless your parents are already millionaires, then just ask for money to start a business so you can exploit everyone else and be happy.

Bring attractive and healthy benefits your ability to ascend socially and monetarily. Life isn’t a meritocracy. having your masters and 140iq doesn’t guarantee success. Lifting makes you look better, which makes people treat you better, which leads to a better life. Not complicated. It’s also good for your mental health and social wellbeing, don’t be a lazy Black person, lift the weights, you’ll only be better off for it.

Lifting should be a part of your life not your entire life.

Lifting and successfully achieving strength and aesthetic goals requires certain fundamental values.
    >commitment
    >dedication
    >sacrifice
    >self discipline
    >hard work
And more. Unless you /fraud/ these are some of the character traits necessary to succeed not just in lifting but in life. In the same way you dedicate some of your time to lifting so too must you dedicate time to other endeavors. In the same way you sacrifice sweets and exercise control over your diet, so too must you make sacrifices and exercise self control for the sake of your business, your friends, your family. Hard work should go without saying, you get out what you put in.
    >education
Very little correlation with education and material success. Youd know this if you were educated. You can earn more money. And the same values required to get a good education are shared with lifting. And lastly lifting takes 3 hours per week. If you get 8 hours of sleep you can sacrifice 1 hour 3 times and would be better off lifting. Your analogy is flawed, your premise is incorrect.

Working out (not only weightlifing) teaches discipline and it can help a lot of people as a startpoint to turn around their life. People without discipline dont achieve shit unless they were born rich
