I broke my wrist hiking and got surgery to get metal rods inserted in my arm.

It’s been 2 years and my wrist still hurts whenever I try to do any activity that relies on using my wrist strength like heavy dumbbell curled, push ups, etc. any suggestions?

It's possible you didn't do your physical therapy right. You should start out by doing some stretching and very light wrist strengthening exercises. But be careful with these tho, start very slow.

Yeah apparently the angle of the breakage was over a certain percent so they couldn’t just snap it back into place? Idk doctor stuff

If that's your picture you had a plate and screws inserted.

It was a plate and screws you right. What other ways can I stay fit I don’t want to be a fatty and I’ve been gaining weight

Sprinting, cycling, swimming, kickboxing/muai thai but focus more on the kicking/elbow part.
There are SO many ways to be fit, strong above the average people. Lifting weight is literally only the entryway to sports and exercise. The real redpill is drop the weights or keep them to a minimum, and pick up a sport instead.

i had a similar-ish injury, it was 10 years of consistent lifting/activity/flexibility work before i stopped having any issues like that. use it like God intended and just deal with the pain/bruising. the key with any injury is acting as-if you're back to full health, you basically have to train your body to stop treating it like an injury

Thanks. That’s what I’ve been trying to do the only downside is after a few push-ups or heavy curls it feels like my wrist is litterally going to snap again and I have to stop. Hoping to find a plan that can slowly get me back to the point of consistency in the gym with heavier dumbbells/more reliance on my wrist.

Its pretty cringe when I go to a class or workout with buddies and I can’t even do 10 push ups before I need go stop

if you're concerned check in with a dr wrt the rods, but I can't say it was ever cringe for me, just a fact of life. the alternative is allowing the wrist to go arthritic from lack of use/flexibility as you age. accept the pain now and work thru it day by day. Mine only hurts when dumbbells rub where I got one of the screws put in. ice it when it bruises, etc. Once I got past the fear that I was going to break something I started taking an odd joy in seeing how much pain I could tolerate mainly because I wanted my flexibility back

Thank you for the inspiration that’s a good way to look at it. Really looking to reclaim my health and get my physical activity back to where it was

Yeah, your wrist probably isn't going to ever be 100% how it was, but even if you just get to 80% that's still good

It was a nasty fall going downhill on some shitty small slippery rocks. My immediate instinct was to put my hand behind me to try and catch myself and that’s where I goofed

I did 6 weeks of physical therapy but I may have not done enough reps and practice as the guy recommended. Hopefully it’s not too late/irreversible now

It isn't, you gotta strengthen those ligaments/ connective tissue. I did the same mistake with my knee, skipped or was lazy about the rehab, you gotta catch up now

But like I said, be careful and take it slow, if you feel excessive pain during these stop/take a break
