I don't understand how some people can maintain a resting squat position naturally but I can't squat without going on my tiptoes?

I don't understand how some people can maintain a resting squat position naturally but I can't squat without going on my tiptoes? Is it a strength issue or a mobility issue?

Pic related but imagine the barbell isn't there.

Hmm, wider stance, feet pointed out more not straight. Barbell should be hovering over the center of the foot and weight distributed evenly across the whole foot.

Also short femurs and being a manlet (ladylet). Someone with longer femurs will have a greater degree of hip flexion.

It's almost totally body geometry. On the plus side you're probably tall, and "squatting" is just about the only thing it's bad for.

I'm 5'11 bro, not super tall. I should be able to squat barefoot normally like other people do.

        >upper end of manlet spectrum
Maybe if you were 5'10 instead of 5'11", you'd be able to do it. But let's get away from the meme, it's difficult to get into that position for anyone taller than 5'6."

I am 5'11" and can sit in a full slav squat forever.
I need weightlifting shoes to do the same while maintaining a rigid torso though.

Stop coping and fix your shit.

LOL at this cope, 6'2" and can go atg btw. Was not able to when I began lifting but gradually became more flexible with time.

It’s because you have a Dalmatian hip. Eastern European descent. Western European Celts have deep hip sockets and used to murder you mobility tards in medieval times.

Western Europeans have deep hip sockets from generations of swinging heavy weapons and climbing hills. This hip delivers strength but poor mobility at the skeletal level, not healthy to push through. I’m just saying embrace your genetics whatever they are.

You could just be white and have Western European hip anatomy. Look up the Celtic or Scottish hip. This is why strongman is mainly Western European descent, while Olympic lifting is Eastern European and Asian.

No, I live in Australia. Everyone here squats bare feet, I've seen literally lanklet Sudanese able to squat barefeet. I think it's a mobility thing. How can I be more mobile.

I'm much closer to dalmatian there and I'm borderline not legally squatting as low as I can go.
          -with weightlifting shoes
          -with wide stance
          -with high bar
It's all torso to femur to shin ratios determining balance.

Squat mobility is a dogshit metric, being able to kick someone in the head that's taller than you is a good metric. Go to a legit kickboxing place where I, someone who hasn't trained in years couldn't demolish everyone in the gym while they're all fresh.

Just squat deep all the time and pause at the bottom. After a while you’ll be sitting in a squat without the weight.

    It's a mobility problem
Train your tibialis so that you can hold your ankle in the bend or "knees over toes" position

Going on your tippy toes is good for calves. I don't work out and only come to this board for a laugh but my calves mog everyone I know outside of huge islanders.

How long have you been practising? It's a skill. If course there is limb and torso length as well as the shape of your hips but if you keep at it you should eventually get there.

You have shit ankle mobility, I had the same problem too. Look up stretches for ankle mobility, specifically dorsiflexion. Could also get raised heel powersharting shoes in the mean time.

It's not ankle mobility in my case but weightlifting shoes help because they increase the effective length of the lower leg.

Google 'Why people have to squat differently'. It is partly anatomical, but mostly mobility (hip, quads, calves, ankle, core strength). There might be some toddler pics of you, where you can hold the squat just fine.

I always believed I can't squat, but the weight + time got me there just fine.

Like being nonwhite or shorter than 5'11, it is simply a genetic filter. You are less viable breeding stock, ordained by nature. No need to overthink it.
