I have a little cousin who is 16 years old and apparently gets picked on by his peers which gets him down and annihilates his self-confidence and happiness. He is kind and beautiful but a little slow sometimes. He would like to start training and put on muscle and I think it could help him with his confidence and just make him feel a little better about himself. But he doesn't really know how to go about it and neither do I (I only know basic stuff about sets and reps. calories in/out etc.).
Any advice on what kind of exercises/regiment/diet would help him to put on muscle and become bigger? And what to avoid? He is tall and skinny but has wide shoulders.

Literally only let him train arms and shoulders. It's the easiest to train and the thing that is the most visible with a shirt on.
    Bonus points for back

This plus a boxing pad and boxing gloves, hold the pad for him and let him throw some punches.
The more punches he throws the more confident he'll be at donutting his bullies faces with a singular punch

it would be better if he learned a fighting sport, something like self defense. that would boost his self confidence way more

Just make him follow StrongLifts. It does compound exercises which are great for general strength building for beginners. Make sure he does DB curls and hammer curls too so his arms develop along with the rest of his body

If he's a complete begginer I recommend pirating Jeff Nipphard's fundamentals hypertrophy for begginers. It's a good starting program for novices. It will also help you probably, if you only know the basics.

If he's a homosexual that can't stand for himself, he needs to learn Muay Thai or MMA. It'll give him the confidence, after that he can lift weights.
