i jus started lifting (27 days ago) and i noticed i am feeling more depressed than usual and thinking about suicide more often. i've suffered with depression my whole life so nothing new, but it seems worse since i started working out. but just after i lift i do feel great, but it only lasts a little while, then the whole day i feel like shit until i lift again. is this a good thing or a bad thing?

      i can try

Take 10k IU of vitamin D3.
After a month you will look back and realize you havent been depressed as much.
You will never be "happy" all yhe time. Thats a myth that depressed people think is real. But you will just stop falling into the mental rut extremely subtley. If you find yourself thinking about how you are feeling down it is a trap. You will not get it out of your system by continuing to dwell or "letting it out". Immediately force yourself to do something else. Take trash out, dishes etc.
Keep working out, take d3, and distract yourself for now. You will look back one day and realize its been under control since you dont know when.

i have been taking 20mcg (micro grams) of D3 for a few years now. my levels were critically low at one point and my doctor got me on a high dose, but now i just maintain it. i don't know what that is in IU.
so do you think continuing to lift will help if i stick with it? i must admit it's like the only thing i look forward to all day now. i don't know how, but i have found the motivation to workout every single day with no rest days so far.

IU stands for international units. Take 10k per day, especially if youve had lower levels before. You can add k2 to help absorb it if you want.
You shouldkeep working out, absolutely. But you need to work in rest days. At least 2 per week or it will effect your ability to lift and over stress your body eventually. This can effect your immune system and mood. You dont want to make things worse, you want to improve. And your body will need time to repair. Rest days are the only days it can buold muscle properly.
Im sure you know this too but make sure you eat right as well. If you eat crap, you will feel like crap

apparently 10k IU would be 250mcg. my 20mcg are already 400% DV, are you sure about that?
yeah my diet is really good rn. i'm getting all my micros and macros (i'm vegan if that matters but i definitely get enough protein)
i've been thinking, maybe the reason i seem to feel worse since working out, is because i'm comparing lows to highs? like i feel great after i lift, but that means i can only go down from there?
anyway yeah i should probably add in a rest day

Being vegan matters a lot. Your serotonin in mostly created in the colon so no matter what anyone tells you, if veganism was toxic this would heavily influence your mental.
Would highly recommend getting into eggs first (like https://youtu.be/k1LtlqICXII ) and maybe red meat as you go.

but um being vegan is the most important thing to me. it's been 7 years now and i can't ever go back 🙂
i've been depressed far longer than i've been vegan tho. honestly i think my brain is just broken

oh and i have a kale smoothie everyday, so i assume that's a good source of K2?

Yes, thats what i take. The old study that it will rot you bones is bullshit. They found you can take upwards of 100k/day. You can start with 5k if you're worried. The smoothie should be fine

Are you eating and sleeping enough? Depression from lifting is red flag that you're not recovering.

What's your diet like? I'd personally say eat more fruit and fiber so you feel more content and drink a lot of water and tea if you feel unnerved or anxious.
Also stay off alcohol and stuff with a lot of caffeine for a couple weeks and see if you recover better.

i have porridge with nuts and seeds for breakfast
fried tofu with rice noodles and spring onions, then a kale smoothie with pineapple and banana for lunch
and sweet potato curry with lentils and stuff for dinner.
might have plain rice if i am still hungry.
i drink a lot of black and green tea. might have black coffee twice a week or so.
no alcohol recently, but a little bit of weed.
yeah from what i am hearing i might need more time to recover. i haven't had a rest day since i strted lifting.

yeah but what do you expect i'm vegan? 🙂
oh it's all gluten-free btw. i get all my daily vitamins and minerals. and i get 80g-100g protein atm. really not sure how i could improve but i'm very open to suggestions.

I feel the opposite way, exercise feels invigorating and makes my days a lot better.

If I am just laying around all the time then I do not feel as well.

Maybe it is not a physical thing, maybe it is in your heart.

          Would recommend Jesus Christ.

Do not have a nice day, it will be okay, love you bro.

thanks, bro. love you too. glad you're doing good.

What you need is some fricking meat, your body isn't going to recover or build muscle with that diet.

tofu, nuts, seeds, oats, rice, lentils, chickpeas etc.
plus i add soya protein powder to my porridge, smoothie and curry. 🙂
          i get plenty of protein
