I just got banned from my gym. I'm in disbelief right now.

Some qt asked me to hold the door her her, she was a cute Asian in yoga pants carrying a big bag so I held the door open. I go over and start doing my sets when the manager comes over with her and says I failed the "security check"

I thought they were doing a TikTok or something I didn't understand. He says because I opened the door to a "non member" I broke the contract and I need to leave immediately.

I seen her sitting in the office as I left smiling at me fricking roastie I'm out $200 bucks and need to get a bus to the next gym

Unbeknownst to me, this woman was an employee of the gym, and this was a set-up to see if I would let a person inside without verifying that they are indeed a member of the gym. In addition to being a contemptible act of deception, this action unfairly singled me out among gym members for being responsible for gym security, something for which the gym itself, not individual members, should be solely responsible. As such, I am hereby requesting an apology and reinstatement of my gym membership, and if you fail to do so I will have no choice but to consider civil litigation against [x gym].

          To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to formally address an incident that occurred earlier today at [gym]. During my visit, I assisted a woman carrying a large bag by holding the door to allow her entry into the gym premises. Unbeknownst to me at the time, this individual was an employee conducting a "security check" designed to evaluate member adherence to access policies.

I find this practice to be misleading and concerning. It unfairly placed the responsibility of gym security on individual members rather than the management where it rightfully belongs. Singling me out under these circumstances is not only deceptive but also undermines the trust and fairness expected within the member community.

In light of this, I respectfully request an apology and the reinstatement of my gym membership. Failure to address this matter satisfactorily may leave me no choice but to pursue legal recourse against [x gym].

          Sincerely,

it sounds like you're saying she is part of gym staff and was doing a security test on you by pretending to be a non-member. does your contract also say that they are entitled to perform these random security checks without informing members beforehand? if what you're suggesting is true, then the gym deceived you, and it would be very reasonable for you to argue that you didn't actually break your contract - you let in a staff member, not a random person off the street, after all.

It doesn't necessarily mean she's gym staff though.
She could've been like, "oh, he let me in", or the manager's girlfriend (I've seen businesses do this so that they have non-staff actors working on their behalf to conceal culpability), etc..

My gym is the same way but only after hours and they don’t seem to really care unless you get caught by the staff. It’s kinda tarded but they do it for insurance purposes so I’m surprised they would actually set up a sting operation but your story is believable. No good deed goes unpunished, it’s a cruel world we live in, next time tell them that you can’t let them in and if they follow you in it’s on them, that’s what I do now with no issues yet.

This is a good reminder btw to never trust women and never go out your way for them. Men getting tricked by women especially young pretty women is a tale as old as time going back to genesis. Don’t hold open doors, don’t move out the way, don’t offer any advice or help, preferably don’t even look at them or even talk to them when you don’t have to.

Women kinda suck but all men forget that when they’re horny. People will call people like us incels and we must embrace it knowing we are on the right side of history.

Don't be naive, they knew what they were doing by choosing a "cute Asian in yoga pants" as bait. The manager could have done the whole thing himself if he wanted to but he knows people wouldn't be so eager to help a man, it also wouldn't surprise me that if a man was in her position he would just let the guy off with a warning and not report it to his manager, men have a brotherly connection to protect and share wisdom that women do not have.

              Anonymous

you're assuming that the gym wants people to fail the test. why would they want to kick out a paying member if they don't have to? unless this is some kind of exclusive, expensive fitness club with a manager that really cares about adherence to the security policy at the expense of their own reputation, then it's much more likely they just chose the asian girl randomly or because it was her turn to do it.

                Anonymous

                >why would they want to kick out a paying member
gym owner doesn't like OP but can't arbitrarily cancel his membership without legal risk. Yeah, OP pays, but a single payer isn't everything - it's certainly not equal to several payers who disapprove of OP's presence and might stop paying as a result.
thus, the honeytrap. Even if some innocent gymgoer had run over to hold the door open, the owner would've used his discretion to forgive that offense and then re-run the honeytrap to kick OP out.

you've created an insanely elaborate hypothetical scenario in which the gym is targetting one specific person. i want to really think through all of the practical steps this would require:
                >manager wants OP gone for unspecified reasons, even though OP has not violated TOS
                >manager asks cute asian girl staff member to pose as a non-member to try to trick OP into holding the door open, violating TOS
                >manager and staff girl must review OP's check-in and check-out times in the member log, looking for patterns
                >staff girl has to coordinate her work schedule around their best guesses as to when OP will show up next
                >staff girl must wait outside the building, risking her own safety, while wearing casual clothes and carrying a fake gym bag, waiting for OP to hopefully arrive
                >staff girl must follow OP through to the entrance and make it look natural and not forced
                >if OP recognizes staff girl as staff, the whole thing falls apart
                >even if the plan actually manages to go off smoothly, then staff girl must risk her own safety again by revealing herself to OP as part of the sting operation when he is escorted out
                >staff girl makes $15/hour to do all of this
                >manager and staff girl are risking their jobs if the plan gets found out
do you really think this is more likely than just the gym setting up a random security checkpoint for any member to fall victim to (which is already a lawsuit waiting to happen), or the even more likely scenario that OP is just lying and this whole thing never happened?

Yeah, this story is definitely fake since OP hasn't said shit. However, my point about women still stands.

                >insanely elaborate hypothetical scenario
this shit happens all the time, everywhere. Even getting fired from a job will tend to go this way: your boss doesn't say "you suck, stop coming in", he just gets weirdly strict about rules that aren't strict for other people, until you accumulate writeups that wouldn't matter for other people, until you're let go for cause.
You realize that working is an economic exchange just like you going to the gym is? You pay the gym $200, you pay your boss your labor. The gym gives you services in return, your boss gives you cash in return. In both cases the other party is benefiting, and in both cases regulation makes it awkward for the other party to directly tell you to frick off, so this is done through very simple measures like asking a part-timer to run a "security test" on the gym member you don't want around anymore.

you need to reread my post. it's only "simple" if they get extremely lucky enough to have that part-timer in the exact right place at the exact right time to pull off the trick to the specific person they're targeting on their first try. in reality, the amount of planning and coordination it would take, plus the fact that this girl might have to make multiple attempts over the course of possibly weeks, to be standing at the door at the exact moment OP shows up makes the whole thing ridiculous and not worth anyone's time. your example about office writeups doesn't apply here because that's something one person can do whenever they want and requires no physical coordination and planning.

The only reason a gym would even do something like setting up a sting operation in the first place is if they want to kick people out. The same way you can't get out of a ticket at a speedtrap, the whole point of the trap is to catch people and punish people not catch them then let them go which would just be a waste of time for the employer.

If money is exchanged and the amount being being disputed is under $3500 anyone can open a small claims case for almost any reason, you can even represent yourself, in fact it's very common (in the US)
Depends on the county but the filing fee is usually under $100 and you need to hire a servicing agent, but you can add those costs to what the defendant owes you if you win the case
Having a written gym contract that most gyms provide and you being able to prove they broke it is a solid case that the judge would more likely than not side with you. You just have to make sure you have some decent physical evidence that the contract was broken, that's pretty much it

I live in a one party consent recording state.
When I join a gym, I always turn on audio recording on my phone. I ask to speak with the highest level manager. I let him do his sales pitch.
When it comes to sign, I ask about the fine print
    >What's your name again, Mr Manager?
    >Says here I need to cancel via verified mail. Do I really need to send certified mail to cancel my membership? (Nah, just shoot us an email)
    >You have a hefty yearly maintenance fee. So can I count on your ergs to be maintained in a week or two of breaking down? (Of course).
.etc for anything that looks fishy.

Verbal contract riders are still contracts... I think? It doesn't really matter because no one has ever call me on this. They just give in.
