    To your point anon, some melatonin here and there won’t hurt, but if you take it daily that’s a problem as your body will stop producing it on its own naturally which means shit sleep quality when you don’t take it.

    Melatonin is a hormone that controls your testosterone. It is literally a puberty blocker. You know how little kids cant stay up past midnight and like naps? Because they have a ton of melatonin in their bodies. That same high melatonin is also what prevents them from hitting puberty. As they get older melatonin decreases and tells their bodies to start puberty. Now theres more to to and its just one small part of the equation. Sp it doesnt mean you can literally just take a ton of melatonin and it will prevent or reverse puberty. Same with sleep. Taking melatonon wont knock you out, and you dont need to be full of melatonin to fall asleep.
    But there is evidence in animals their their testes shrink when administred melatonin. No evidence in humans (yet), but given what i just said better safe than sorry imo.

    By the way its the same mechanism by which animals hibernate/are less active in the winter and breed in the spring and summer months. Days shorter, melatonin goes up, animals sleep more and testes shrink. Days get longer, melatonin goes down, animals more active and get horny and ready to breed.

    Apart from that like any other hormone, it messes with your natual production. Compound that with the fact that melatonin isnt regulated and that when a bottle says 3mg, it can literally be anywhere between .5mg and 300mg

    It's great for your dopamine levels and for getting deep sleep. There are a few tricks though. For one, pretty much all melatonin you can buy in stores is INSANELY overdosed... the scientist who originally synthesized it synthetically recommended a dose of something like 250mcg. The lowest dosing I saw in stores last I checked was 3mg which is over 10x the recommended dose, and it goes up to 10mg. High doses of melatonin 100% give me sleep inertia throughout the entire next day (I feel like I cannot / have not fully woken up all day long). High doses can also paradoxically give you insomnia. I recommend buying a 500mcg dose on Amazon and trying that.

    The other thing is don't take it unless you are literally laying your head down on the pillow to sleep. If you take it and stay up for another hour or two, you can get bad insomnia instead
