I need to lose as much weight as possible in 2.5 months (graduation + meeting family after 2 years). Is it okay to skip weightlifting since that is more of a long term investement? There will be a huge calorie defecit with IM fasting.

I would recommend swapping out your lifting for cardio. Depending on how much you need to lose 2.5 months might not be enough.
Biggest cut is no food, salted water and running like a kenyan. Try not to get heatstroke moron.
Just do cardio 4 times a week, and lift minimal to maintain your muscle mass. Like do 4 sets of bench presses and other compunds you do once a week and so on, and skip isolation movements
If you lift while losing weight you will lose relatively more fat and less muscle which makes you look a lot better. Just train fullbody 2-3 times a week.

No. This isn't negotiable if your goal is to actually lose weight fast. Its necessary to maximize weight loss since during exercise is when you will be expending all that caloric energy you accumulated both short term and long term. It is important you discard whatever brain virus you have that's telling you it's not worth it. Kill the thought and proceed to kill your reps in the gym.
In addition. 2.5 months of exercise in the gym will easily turn into 3 months, 3 to 4, and so on.

snake diet, and walk over 20k steps a day, no need to go fast, just walk
I think if you don't workout besides cardio you'll lose more weight, but that will be because you're shedding lean mass. Even if the number on the scale will be bigger, weightlifting to keep more of your muscles should produce a better result visually and make you lose almost the same amount of fat.
So you could either do Lyle McDonald psmf (read the book please) or try fasting, there is a general here and a subreddit (yeah) and I would say hit the gym even if it's doing some bro split routine in 3 months you can put on some muscle that people will notice if you have been a dyel your entire life it sure happened to me even though I didn't notice shit everyone asked me if I was going to the gym lol
You want to lift if only just to maintain the muscle you do have.
Lift while you're cutting and get protein. Huge forced deficits without lifting will leave you likely looking like a saggy beanbag. I know that you don't want to hear it but doing it correctly yields the best results. I wrestled for most of my school life and could cut 10lbs in a few days. Most I did was 8lbs in a day to recertify weight classes on a whim. You're better off being smart
