    >overheard two guys in the gym
    >they were talking about some dude shadow boxing while on the treadmill
I've never seen it so i thought it was a meme, but I want to believe that a guy was running on a treadmill while throwing punches like a madman.

I have done that before a little bit.

      What is weird about that?

I have seen UFC fighters do things like that on treadmills in UFC promos.

Being able to run or walk while punching is a really valuable skill. It might sound like the simplest thing but it is actually complex and not easy to do. Powerful punches rely on bodily mechanics from your arm, through your shoulder, to your hips, into your legs and feet. It is hard enough to get those mechanics down, and doing it while your legs are preoccupied with walking makes it way way harder.

good for you anon, I generally spend an hour jumping rope, shadowboxing, and doing heavy bag before I start lifting

You should switch the jump rope for indian club swinging in various formats. It's a better warm up because it brings your shoulders elbows and even the rest of your body through a wide range of dynamic motion whereas jump rope is extremely repetitive and can lead to tight and inflexible muscles.

my sessions are generally 3-minute rounds of each activity with one-minute rest periods in between each for an hour plus; rope is great for footwork, especially if you are an out fighter. Also, I don't have Indian clubs.

it strengthens your calves well but idk if I would say it's great for footwork considering you're not doing any actual footwork. I just think it's too repetitive with too few motions for an ideal boxing warmup. It covers all the important parts of the body from legs, core, arms, wrists etc, but it doesn't go through all the dynamic range of motion leading to less flexibility.

            >considering you're not doing any actual footwork

There are definitely a number of footwork-oriented skipping drills. The main benefits of skipping are the impact is has on your cardio, the strengthening of your calves, and also divorcing your mind from the act of bouncing on your feet. After enough rounds, you eventually become able to go through various foot patterns without having to think about it at all, which translates to keeping your feet bouncing at all times during a boxing round without having to consciously make an effort of it.

If you can skip for a 3 minute round without making a single mistake all while holding a consistent conversation with the other dudes skipping beside you, then you're in a pretty good spot

I do a lot of stance-switching, lateral movement, and alternating one foot hops while skipping, which is fitting for my style of dutch style muay thai. I'm pretty flexible these days and have no problems landing head kicks or spinning kicks.
