I switched gym and my new gym, despite supposedly having newer and better equipment, doesn't even have safety bars for the bench.

In Quebec I've never even seen ONE bench with safety bars. I'm convinced it's a plot by the anglos to kill of the fit Francophones little by little.

My gym has the fancy ones with the foot lever that drops the bench below the safety bars, 10/10 would recommend.

how does that work, good bench form is touching your chest with the bar pretty sure, you want to stretch the muscle

never worked out in a gym with those, I agree it's a nuisance and you can't go 100% because of failing and pinning (I have and had to call randoms to help) but im not sure comprosing form/doing half reps is worth it either, just keep a rep in the tank and you'll be good to go

Just make sure chest is thicker than stomach

        >just make sure you move the bar downwards in a very unnatual motion just so you don't get crushed when failing

from that position you wouldn't be able to lift the bar back up and would need someone to save you regardless, plus you'd probably injure yourself with the motion, shoulder internal rotation with 100kg+ will frick your shit up really fast

it doesn't impede with chest level, you keep it just below chest level + you're somewhat arched/pushed up when benching, if you fail then you can roll it forward a bit closer to stomach then wiggle your way out of it

      this
at my gym the lowest safety on the squat rack is just slightly too high so it doesnt touch my chest
maybe if im pushing a new pr ill use them and just deal with not touching the bar to my chest, but otherwise it just too awkward and i omit it

I place weights under my bench to elevate to match the safety rack.

My chest is over the safety bar, head below it. If I were to fail (which will never happen) the bar will slide off my chest and come to rest above my head. At which point I slide forward, and stand up.

You set it so that it's below your arch, but above your chest if you lie completely flat. Also obviously depends on how fat/jacked you are.
      >nooo muh arch powershitter fatso cheater
A slight arch is good form that protects your shoulders and enables more stability.

This is why I do incline bench because you can get the bar back up using leg drive if you need to.

Your other option is to grab a bench and lift in the smith machine
Either that or bench in the squat rack

Half of all weight lifting related deaths in the world are because of benching without the safety bars. It's completely irresponsible of them to be missing the safety bars
