Just go. Ignore the other fricks in the gym. You are there for YOURSELF. Make it a habit. Loosing weight starts with your mind. YOU have to have that discipline to go and to be mindful of what you eat. It will take months of dedicated, but once you make it part of your everyday you will get results. Listen to something that motivates you, and just do it. Only you are holding yourself back

Hide under a hoodie. Nobody cares about you in the gym, especially under a hoodie

Ex-fatty here. Went to the gym last year, nervous af, nobody looked at me. Now I'm fitter and no longer fat, I don't judge anyone in the gym, no matter how new or out of shape they are. Nobody cares, just go.

The only time you'll be judged is if you're acting like an ass. Don't bring your own speaker, don't slam the weights, rerack the weights when you're done with them, don't hit on all the women there, shit like that. People are there to work on themselves and maybe socialize a little. They don't care what you're doing

Literally nobody else gives a flying frick about you. Get over yourself. You're not special. Focus on yourself and what you can control.

Just get yourself a homegym bra. 300$ for a rack, bench and some weights, you dont need more

Except what about the litany of threads every single day on IST laughing at gym newbies? In this thread you're saying nobody cares but if i started a thread saying how optimistic i was feeling you'd post the opposite. Posters here are fricking contrarian npcs - you know exactly how a thread will develop from how the OP is phrased. People just respond to stimulus like fricking Pavlov's dog. IST is so stupid and predictable. I've been playing you all for years just by changing how i word a post. This post, for example, has been carefully constructed to receive (yous) and there's nothing you monkey-brained morons can do about it

IST is full of mentally unwell fricks and a lot of people here are confirmed to not even lift. Most demoralizers are falseflagging incels trying to make people upset for fun.

Also you fit right in judging by these posts.

This. Just by going you’re something that literally every other chunk out there refuses to do: putting in the minimal work it takes on a routine basis. Even encourage the guy after a few months to keep them on the right track.

Fat guy here been going to the gym since late January. No one has been judgemental. People are just trying to do their own thing. The few interactions I've had with others have been overwhelmingly positive. You have to just go and you'll get over it

Not OP but how’s it going? What are you trying to achieve besides the weight loss? What’s the most difficult?

Losing fat and building muscle is the main thing. I want to get stronger too and have good conditioning like when i was younger and used to go running. It's going great. A number of people have commented on how much weight I've lost, and I can visibly see that I'm slimmer around the gut, legs & face. My chest/back & shoulders are developing too

I was and still am really fricking fat but I love going to the gym, it's just my new hobby now that has the added bonus of being really good for my health

Take your shirt off and go for a walk rn and come back and tell us how you were effected by people silently judging you. Being judged is an irrational fear it can't hurt you and everyone is doing it to everyone anyways. You just have to leave your comfort zone.

This. I only pass good judgement on fatties at the gym or running at the park, unless they are excessively on their phones or eating food mid-workout.

To believe the internet you'll be the only out of shape person there, you'll walk in and everyone will be benching 3 plates and giving you weird looks like why are you in a gym, and there'll be extremely sexy young girls all around you in luscious clothing filming for their tiktoks and trying to catch guys looking at their butts and someone will try to "call you out" for looking at her and then another gymbro "incel" will come over and be like man they are asking for that attention just ignore them we're going to train hard and get big, and you'll accidentally look their way anyway and there'll be a big confrontation about you looking and there'll be a bouncer that comes along telling you you need to leave and it'll all blow up on tiktok, and blah blah blah blah blah blah blah.

What you'll actually find is a variety of normal-looking people, there might be a sexy girl or two around just like you might see walking in the street who you might casually check out a little and nothing dramatic will happen, there will be fat people there, thin people, ugly people, and people will be wearing earplugs and they won't give the slightest shit about you and what you do. And people will be polite and you could literally go right up behind a girl working out checking her out and she will be unlikely to do anything about it but you will feel bad and weird because it's rude and weird and everyone minds their own business and is polite and nothing happens.

lately I've been able to separate myself from my mental illness, I even put a name to it.
Personally, I think you should focus on fighting, that's what kind of started the process.
Try to fall asleep trying to separate from your insecurities, they're practically like a demon

It's not that judgment from others, but the increased awareness I have if myself in the presence of mirrors and examples of healthy people. I'm fricked up and a loser, but I want to improve too. It weighs on me heavily after I leave the gym that I'll never be like the others, and this feeling has persisted past the point of me reaching a normal body weight. I got a rack for at home. I just need to cope in peace.

Just go. I had the same issue as you but my dissatisfaction with being a fat frick was even more than my potential embarrassment. And I did embarrass myself a couple times, don’t care.

Now I go to the gym and I’m as comfortable as I would be in my living room. The only time I feel a bit weird is when girls are there but frick them too I guess.

I, too, was scared about going to the gym when I was 20, in case people judged me.
    That was in 1998.
I am now 45 and have spent all this time weighing 290-320lb and living with diabetes.

Here's the deal. People will judge you and there's nothing you can fricking do about it. Not just at the gym either. However, people at the gym will judge you differently if you go and KEEP GOING. People will respect you when they realize you're not a lazy fricking lard ass that shows up twice for 20 minutes. Maybe I'm an butthole, but that's how my mind works. The more I see some fat sack of shit show up and break a sweat, the more my judgement shifts from 'useless fatfrick' to 'based improver'. Bottom line is GO and KEEP GOING.

I went to the gym once and saw a boomer inserting a dumb bell in his anus! The end got stuck and they had to call an ambulance, and there was blood and shit on the floor. And they tried to charge me $7 for a bottle of water.

Bet you'll make friends if you go and work hard.

People respect people who are working on themselves.

I have a home gym, but the 2 times I went to a local gym there was a girl who was easily 300+ lbs sweating and trying hard. Nobody was staring, poking fun, etc. They were all focused on themselves and I personally thought "at least she's trying unlike lazy fat fricks I know

It feels like everyone is watching you in the first couple months but you soon realize nobody gives a frick. Everyone obsessed with their own look and gains.
