          why not? isn't gaining strength about progressive overload. why does that only occur if you lift heavier w. less reps than lighting with more?

    because most of the population is too weak to get good results from a proper bodybuilder routine right off the bat. you ever wonder why you constantly see guys at the gym doing cable machines with like 10 pounds and making no gains? Some of them are just morons fricking around doing random shit, but some of them are trying to do a proper bodybuilding routine without the baseline of strength necessary
    However I do think this board should start recommending more upper body focused strength routines to noobs like GZCLP. the starting squat worship is too much. GZCLP is about 65% upper body and 35% lower. Starting strength is mostly lower

      I've been shilling stating strength for 8-12 weeks and then reddit ppl for 5 days a week instead of 6 for like, months now. I unironically believe this is the best path for absolute untrained beginners and others. If you're already a construction worker or some shit and want to look good, great, get on reddit ppl or some other beginner body building program. But SS + reddit ppl is a great easy to learn and do program that anyone at almost any gym can do for us to 24 weeks and get great strength gains, basically to the limits of their noob gains, and by the end they'll know whether they want to continue with a PL routine or continue on body building.

        This also gives people who aren't used to going to the gym a pretty good long term plan during and after the grind of going to the gym at the very beginning. By the end of SS you'll probably be wanting to go to the gym 5 days a week and feel like 3 is too little.

    I still don't get how people divide bodybuilding and strength training. I did a powershitter routine and just didn't do a moronic calorie surplus and I looked pretty good after my cut. OHP/Bench/Squats/Deadlift gives you a nice chest, big shoulders, decent back. Just add in chins and do some random ab stuff and it's a perfectly good program for aesthetics. Unless I'm misunderstanding what people mean by "powershitter" here?
