                You're not entirely wrong about strength being different, it can depend on a lot of factors such as limb length, CNS and whatever. But most people are going to rely on strength increases whether they like it or not to get more gains. Hypertrophy and strength go hand-in-hand for almost everyone, as long as they don't do those crazy arches and fuck with their form, as to achieve a lower range of motion. My chest got the biggest when I got to a max of 275, why? Because I could rep out 225 for a lot of reps.

        Genetics plays a huge role in your bulkiness. You could be natty who has been eating the perfect diet and has an ideal training set and you could still look like a DYEL because your muscles are strong, powerful, but compact.

      The answer to that question is that he is unable to get stronger (increase strength to a mid intermediate) due to the fact he does not want to work hard in the gym, and is unable to cope with the possibility of temporarily not being as lean whilst he gains muscle, this could be because he doesn't have confidence in his ability to lose fat later, he has body image insecurity issues, etc. Or he could be lying about caring first and foremost about hypertrophy/muscle size and just wants to coast and look okay.           Yeah, but technique under heavy load changes. Maybe he can do 220x10 but it he tried a 275 max his weakpoints in his form would show through and he'd fail to complete the lift. 275 would be RPE 8-9 If a one rep max calculator is to be believed for 220x10.
