You could but then this runs the risk of constantly hitting the bars during your set, which is annoying. Better than they be very slightly under so that you don't hit it while still remaining safe
Good bench form your chest is up at least slightly. If the safeties are set just under that, a falling bar is at worst going to hit your braced chest and push you flat onto the bench before hitting them.
Seriously anyone who benches without them is a dipshit. A spotter is a good idea but even the best, most dilligent spotter is not going to catch the bar if it pops out of your hand.
I hate it because sometimes I like to pause at the bottom. I don't bench that heavy though only 210. A 4pl8 bench falling like OP can certainly kill you and plenty of people have died from it
Yeah, that's me.
You're probably wondering how I ended up here, and that's kinda a long story. But if I had to pick out what led me here, I'd say it all started...
they drop the bar because the bar spins too much, and it rolls their hand foward. a bench press bar should not spin easily, its dangerous. use a bar that doesnt spin well, an old bar
i have a home gym so i do all my benching in a power rack. why do bench stations even exist? it cant cost that much to add a little metal and once you toss in branding is almost common to see bench stations that cost more than full power cages
The safeties will save me because I'm not a moron who benches without them
if the bar isnt touching your chest then you aren't benching
Just set the pins an inch below your chest, it's not complicated. The bar won't kill you from sinking 1" into your chest before getting stopped
>The bar won't kill you from sinking 1" into your chest
yes, it will
Then set the pins to be 0.5" below your chest. Happy now?
why not set them flush with your chest?

btfo. safetiesbros our response?
No it won't. You can compress more than a third of your chest without doing any severe damage
>You can compress more than a third of your chest without doing any severe damage
no, you can't
Yes you can. That's how you do proper CPR.
>That's how you do proper CPR.
no, it isn't
Post your CPR cert then, spastic
proper cpr cracks ribs all the time, most people don't go deep enough
No it doesn't. Cracking ribs means you've gone too deep. A third is the general recommendation for CPR compressions so you avoid cracking ribs
Ribs break when you're not doing proper CPR, not because of the depth. If you stay over the sternum, you won't break anything.
>t. certified
CPR can fracture ribs

I use safeties but they are about 2 cm above my chest so my gains are getting robbed.

Just set them one lower. It won't stop you from breaking a rib but you'll live to see another day. Just make sure the bar can't touch your neck.
ideal ROM bros….i think we got too cocky.
Also I’m trans btw forgot to mention
>like how is it possible to survive that
by only doing DB bench like me
Gym supplies 200lb dbs? lol of course it doesn’t weakling
>heh, i'm actually a 450lb bencher, what now?
I don't even support dbfags but post body
Just double the reps for 100lb dumbbells, checkmate.
>what is wrist losing groove and dumbbell starts leaning the wrong way
you'd fuck up your arm but not die
post the webm where you can see the guy's guts balloon out
please dont.
please do
Your body is very resilient. Your arteries, veins, etc. aren't like wet tissue paper.
Yeah, that's me.

youre supposed to do bench press in the powerrack so you have safety bars, so you can max your pump without a spotter
ok hear me out, what about push ups but with augmented gravity?
