If you're obese, is it better to lift heavy or do cardio to get in shape?

Maybe a combination of both is needed. If you are this person:

what would you do?

    It's better to eat less.

The output required to burn 1500kcal is far in excess of what a fatty is capable of. Not eating a quarter pounder combo achieves the same outcome.

No really, you are ngmi. You will be fat for life. You'll end up doing 15-30 minutes of activity and overcompensate by eating more. Then you'll be mad that you didn't lose any weight, quit your diet, and stress eat even more. You'll end off worse than you are now.

well if you don't wanna change your diet you could at least try to control your portions and count calories

Yea but cardio makes you hungry, lifting burns less calories but doesn't make you hungry and builds muscle which has an effect on metabolism and test.

you dont need to lift or do cardio if you're that fat, fixing your diet is all you need. You're pretty much at weightloss easymode if youre TDEE is 4000 just from doing nothing

It requires a lot of cardio to lose weight.

I lost weight effortlessly and without noticing when doing something akin to HIIT (shoveling a lot of snow and moving 100-150L of water from point A to point B daily), and at the same time exhausting myself with lifting. But this is not a good routine, it's artificial stress and you would burn out in a few months. You'd have to take a pause and review the routine.

If you’ve got little muscle you should lift.

lift heavy because you've already pre bulked and can use your fat stores to fuel huge gains

Better to eat less. Exercise the best appetite enhancer known to man. I wouldn't even begin to exercise until I got my diet in check if I was obese.
