I’ve lost weight (30+lbs) on multiple different diets. Simple calorie counting, keto, then most recently multiple day fasting. Each time I gained the weight back again. The first two times because I stopped working out and watching what I eat, and the last time intentionally while lifting to get stronger. All diets work so long as you are consistently reducing your caloric intake below your tdee.
think for a second about your brain and how it forms habits

27, 290lbs here. I've been doing IM now for a week and already I can't stomach portions I would normally have eaten. Helps that I moved recently and only brought a single bowl with me, so all my meals have to fit into it. I disagree. All forms of dieting worked for me for 8+ months. It wasn’t until I stopped paying attention that the weight came back, but keto didn’t have any particular ability to help maintain willpower. At best you can say that it helps with cravings for some because you can eat almost anything except sweets and bread, but personally, most of my cravings are for sweets so it had the opposite effect.

Keto is silly, and at BEST a therapeutic practice. It has its uses but is not a catch all practice. BUT, ketosis (the objective of the ketogenic diet) is 100% attainable without following the dogma of a keto lifestyle. Fasting with carb loading refeeds (specifically on fresh high water content fruits) is the absolute IDEAL for the vast majority of people. The only people who could not jump straight into this lifestyle are those who are severely sick with genetic weaknesses who must first be weaned into it. I’ve lost 150 pounds and feel amazing. I have yet to lose all my weight and clear up all the health issues I’ve faced but I’m closer now than ever before. I had a gnarly ass frickin psoriasis rash that covered a solid 70% of my upper body and head that has completely cleared up.

I had the opposite experience. I felt very good lifting while on keto. In comparison, lifting while cutting the traditional way felt like trash. More often than not it would be a struggle between not going over my calories and not feeling like shit at the gym.
I was 300lbs by 15, highest 370 and now I'm down 85lbs just by eating less and counting calories.

I’ve lost weight (30+lbs) on multiple different diets. Simple calorie counting, keto, then most recently multiple day fasting. Each time I gained the weight back again. The first two times because I stopped working out and watching what I eat, and the last time intentionally while lifting to get stronger. All diets work so long as you are consistently reducing your caloric intake below your tdee.

27, 290lbs here. I've been doing IM now for a week and already I can't stomach portions I would normally have eaten. Helps that I moved recently and only brought a single bowl with me, so all my meals have to fit into it. I disagree. All forms of dieting worked for me for 8+ months. It wasn’t until I stopped paying attention that the weight came back, but keto didn’t have any particular ability to help maintain willpower. At best you can say that it helps with cravings for some because you can eat almost anything except sweets and bread, but personally, most of my cravings are for sweets so it had the opposite effect.

BUT, ketosis (the objective of the ketogenic diet) is 100% attainable without following the dogma of a keto lifestyle. Fasting with carb loading refeeds (specifically on fresh high water content fruits) is the absolute IDEAL for the vast majority of people. The only people who could not jump straight into this lifestyle are those who are severely sick with genetic weaknesses who must first be weaned into it. I’ve lost 150 pounds and feel amazing. I have yet to lose all my weight and clear up all the health issues I’ve faced but I’m closer now than ever before.
