Ever since I've got into fitness I have started paying attention more often to how people look. While most aren't obese, they're obviously overweight or even at normal bmi they look like shit. I'm left to wonder if they just live blind to this and don't realize how shitty they look at all. Talking mostly about men, I don't expect women to make that realization.

Yes but that's not the point, anon. It's about themselves, don't they realize how bad they look?

          >themselves

if it's about themselves your perception of them is meaningless

it is genetic in the sense that your genes dictate how much of a natural appetite you have.
how you were fed as a kid also matters.
But if thats the case, literally everything can be blamed on genetics.
at the end of the day its an excuse unless you are actually diagnosed with something.

The obesity rate was almost zero before the 20th century. So unless you think there was some massive accelerated evolution in that time, I'd say it's quite obvious that it's not genetic. Some people have a slightly harder time dealing with food addiction, some people have a slightly greater tendency towards insulin resistance, but these would not matter without the invention of modern foods specifically cash crops and industrial oils.

I dunno about that chief. You look at a lot of artwork, contemporary shit, of peasantry and they aren't a bunch of skeletal somalis. To say nothing of fat-frick monks and fat-frick merchant wives. Carbs are a cheap and easy way to get calories, always have been. It's 100% true that people were far skinner on average, even as short as just 40 years ago. But overweight and obesity isn't something limited to the 20th century.

99.99% of fatties who blame "genetics" are coping, and most of the .01% who do have bad genetics can still lose weight regardless of "muh genes". More relevant factors behind their weight are what they ate as a kid, how accessible healthier food is, their relationship with food (a lot of fatties eat a lot of food to cope with their issues), seed oils and corn syrup being on fricking everything, and most importantly, their daily eating/exercising habits.

    0% of it is true
People think this because their parents are fat or there's history of heart disease in the family, but so much of diet and activity is learned from the adults in a child's life. It's why nutrition science is so difficult, you can't easily separate out lifestyle because so much of behavior is ingrained from a young age. People self sabotage without realizing it because their perception of normal is skewed

yes because obesity is a symptom of other problems, some with genetic links:

yes genetically some people have an easier/harder time burning fat than others

yes genetically some peoples body composition is larger than others in terms of mass (petite asian vs large african)

yes genetics affect how your body responds to certain foods

yes genetics determine how much muscle you put on, and the type of muscle fibers your body creates

yes genetics affect your athletic ability, recovery rate,

yes trauma can be passed down genetically which will have a large impact on lifestyle, addiction, and eating behavior

2 people can have the exact same diet and lifestyle but end up looking completely different

    >20% cope
    >80% genetics

    >”muh eating too much and lazy”
I had a doctor literally tell me that because of my hormone disorder I can eat the same food as everyone else and not burn the calories as much as they do despite exercising more than them. Doctor gave me diabetes medication that mimics the functions of certain hormones and now I’m losing lots of weight with minimal effort.

I’m fricking so sick of gaslighting gays here

It's less genetics and more that a lot of fat adults didn't ever get the chance to be a fit child/teen. If you've been fat all your life it's agonizing to reverse it and keep it that way.
