I'm going backpacking for a 4 day trip.

What food should I be taking to get as close to my protein target as possible? Shit needs to be lightweight and easy to prep. This isn't camping out of daddy's van. We need to carry everythingon our backs, including everything to prep the food.

Does anybody have any experience with this sort of thing?

Do not expect to maintain some crazy protein intake. depending how far you're hiking in... you're going to burn a lot of calories.

How is your cardio? What are your lifts? 4 day trip with no experience is not easy

I have plenty of experience. I usually don't go too in depth with what I eat though and I notice a lot of gains pouring out the bottom of my hiking shorts as I walk. That's why I'm hoping for some ideas on what to eat. I'm not expecting to hit 150g of protein a day but to get close to 100g would be nice.

All the dehydrated meals are vegan sōy mush.

it’s really not difficult if you’re reasonably fit. i did a 6 day overnighter last year with no training as a skinnyfat vape addict and did completely fine

its 4 days of cardio. take the l and just bring food you want to eat. your first concern is meeting caloric needs. you can get back on track once you come back.

hell ya m8, going on a 10+ day hike here. haven't exactly figured out my food bag quite yet but I've got some of those dehydrated backpacker meals like pic rel. They're honestly kinda expensive but good shit so I drop some money on at least a few. I also like the bags of pasta slides by knoll, if I recall theyre around 480 cal with around 16g protein, lots of carbs too obv. otherwise you want to get on making some homemade jerky for your protein, bars or homemade protein balls of some kind, nuts, i bake some biscuits beforehand too. honestly my method has always been to walk through the grocery store and just get lightweight, dry goods that can be packed away. Meals that just say "Add boiling water" are my moneymaker. pemmican recipes are worth looking into as well, though they can get a bit complicated to perfect

Bring protein powder and /or jerky or packets of chicken. Best you're gonna do. Packets of chicken arent bad, 15g per packet at 2.6oz each. You should have enough for 4 days. If you can't handle a 60lb pack at leisurely pace you're a b***h lmao

I don't even know if jerky is available in the UK. Would sausage suffice?

Sure if it's shelf stable for 4/5 days.
Bring lots of nuts if you're actually going IST for real, you need dense food. Bring lots of carbs too because that's fuel contrary to what the morons on IST say

So I found some pounces similar to the pasta you mentioned that is available in the UK. They are made by bachelors. I'll grab a bunch of them. I reckon I can get away with a couple protein yoghurt pouches for the first two days also. So long as they are double bagged.
Babybells have 5g per bell and the wax should keep them for four days.

Eh, there's lots of weight in there you don't need, and it's not economic.

He would need 16 MREs for 4 days and that is a lot of weight.

don’t know about you guys but i very rarely if ever have lunch on the trail on an overnight trip. just snack on trail mix/jerky until dinner. oatmeal for breakfast. you’d only need 4

Dehydrate your proteins and have em salted aggressively, nuts or some sort of nut butter. Carbs are meh for me on backpacking but you need some to retain increased water but not so much that you sweat profusely or feel sleepy. Also it's kinda dependent on where you're doing it and your heat source and cooking system. If you don't care about taste and have a cooking system/have the luxury of starting a fire most days I'd go halva, pemmican, rice/lentils, biscuits. Usually I'd make a soup with the pemmican and biscuits at the end of the day before turning in and throughout the day eat bits of halva or nuts.

Tuna cans, beef jerky, canned beans/chilli. You can make your own chilli if you have the means to vacuum seal it. If you do, you can beef up the meat-to-bean ratio
