I'm gonna lose all my gains.

I'm gonna lose all my gains. I'm doing a phd in econometrics and I'm only the person that lifts in that entire field. everywhere I go people look at me weird. I feel very out of place, and when I go to conferences I constantly get asked if I'm in the right place.

They fear you, because if you look like that and can also brainmog them what excuse do they have?

      >mog them by showing you're in the same field
How is that bad? You're mogging them physically and matching mentally - it generates seethe I guess but just embraced

      this

Why don’t you want to mog your peers?

They're intimidated. Keep lifting and studying to MOG them to the max.

Be the best, in every department. When the new crash tm starts and thos limp wristlets start dropping out of buildings they'll remember their utter inferiority compared to YOU.

Is this board full of people who've never had a job in their lives? Never been in a professional position? Do you actually believe any of the things you're saying, like, the world can be categorised in an archaic, barbaric, dichotomy of strong v weak, even in a technical field?

OP, there's a reason why running is the wealthy persons exercise. Swap to cardio instead of lifting or you won't even get hired.

    >Econometrics uses economic theory, mathematics, and statistical inference to quantify economic phenomena. In other words, it turns theoretical economic models into useful tools for economic policymaking.

Just cut to 10% so u dont look like u lift in a tshirt, its that easy. despite what IST says looking fit is not optimal in any professional environment if you’re not in a position of power.

imagine having a subordinate that’s 6’3 and 200lbs of pure muscle, u’re inherently intimidated to order him around and like him less just for that. if u cant make ur bosses secure with their power and develop trust in u u’ll never get anywhere in a hierarchy.

Could be worse. I didn't lift until after my phd (different field) and I was much older, and after 3 years of lifting I don't have anything impressive without my shirt off. If I had started when you did I would be so much happier because I could focus less on the gym.

Grad students are still a very young crowd, just develop a personality so that you can own your muscles playfully. If someone throws a jokey reference to your physqiue, do soft laugh and a throw quick flex of one arm. You want to come off as a person who is 100% comfortable in their own body when normal interactions are going on, but when outside attention is called to your body you want to come off as socially astute. Your playful-ness and ironic flexing should send a message like "yeah, guys with big muscles usually aren't like us!"

I'm actually surprised about the conference thing. When you arrive at the conference, are you being proactive in meeting other people so that they know who you are right away? If you are the first one to go "Hi. You here for the econ conference too?" then it establishes in a natural way that you are supposed to be there. It's also possible you are letting an insecurity get to you. Conferences are filled with lots of strangers, and I would get asked who I was/was I there for the conference too, even though I didn't look out of place in any way.

Go clothes shopping at Nordstorms/Macys and ask the employees to give you some good professional wardrobe options, but which wouldn't be too formal for working at a university campus as a teaching assistant. Or just buy some chinos, henleys, plain sweaters, and button ups.

If we had a /fitlit/ conference somewhere around the Baltic sea I'd go in a heartbeat. We'll find a hotel with a good gym and then work out and present papers or hold panels on /fitlit/ topics.
