I'm morbidly giga obese. (401lbs). I've been dieting for a while now and have lost 80lbs in 4 months just by dieting but now I am signing up to a gym to do weight lifting, resistance training etc. But i've got giga anxiety about going to the gym. What do.

last time I went years ago people kept talking about me and laughing

realize literally nobody gives a shit about you in the gym because gymbros are some of the most vain people in the world and 90% of them are only paying attention to their own pump and the other 10% are trying to check out the thot in booty shorts in the mirror without getting caught

      I hope that's the case

Not necessarily lol, people are buttholes. Telling people it CAN'T POSSIBLY BE REAL when they say people are rude or make comments about them is far worse than acknowledging it, because it gives the impression that you're so fricked up that it inspires people to do something abnormal, when in reality people being b***hy and judgy is actually normal and constant

Wrong, I judge fatties who do stupid shit like elliptical + machines. If you want to lose weight just do treadmill or bike. Also throw in some weight training so you can make use of that surplus

Literally nothing wrong with elliptical or machines

Some of the best and most supportive friends I've had could have been easily labeled "douchey judgey gym bro" if you barely interacted with them in passing once.

I've never been fat but I was dyel and they did talk about me as if I'd quit shortly but I earned their respect when I kept showing up.

Go anyways. Yeah people will look at you but who cares. I personally look up to the fatties I see in the gym month after month. If you can't overcome this at least do long daily walks.

      Anonymous

yeah, thats part of the reason I signed up to the gym, I've recently been walking a minimum of a mile to two miles daily, but I keep getting blistered feet so I figured weight training is a better way to go

I like when fat people go to the gym, if they are actually trying. If you go to the gym just to take up space and do nothing, then just do nothing at home, but if you are going there and putting forth effort. I think thats really cool. Id rather see five obese people bettering themselves than five tiktok prostitutes filming their buttcheeks and calling it fitness

    impressive, good job

do it anyways, and eventually you'll realize you were anxious for nothing and that it's not that bad. it's your home, even.

Nobody gives a frick. I was 320lbs and went to the gym. People might have laughed but I didn't notice them. And whenever I see a fatty going for a walk or at the gym I laugh in my head then say good for them.

At first, yeah you'll be judged. We're all just people.
But then when you keep it up and become a familiar face, you'll be respected. And when people see you getting fit and if you stay cool, you'll be a fricking legend.

It won't be easy, but it will change your life if you stick to it.

Yeah you're right. I just have to remember, I am abnormally fat. Like, quite literally the size of 4 people combined. I just gotta grind it out and focus on my goals. Thanks man, the anons in this thread have helped out, I'm kinda excited to go now even if it'll be hard as frick.

start fasting. work your way up to whatever you can do starting out. Research fasting. I'm not fat and I do them. We arent supposed to eat every couple hours all day every day forever. We are meant to go decent periods (16+ hours) every now and then. That will help you on your weight loss. Of course be smart about it. Tons of information out there

it's intermittent fasting right? I'll look into it

not him but you can also look into real fasting (>24h), I think this is what the anon meant. Be careful with it but just remember it's not as dangerous as you might think, it's gonna be hard at first but you'll get the hang of it sooner than you think.

Good luck brother. We believe in you. Congrats on losing 80 lbs already, keep pushing.

Fasting is unironically the fastest (hence the name) way to lose weight. Especially if you weigh a lot, then it's perfectly safe.
The first few days might be very difficult, even painful. But at some point you'll burn all that extra glycogen and won't give a frick anymore. You'll be able to eat very little and not feel hungry, provided that you don't eat too much carbs.

dude every time I saw a fatbody outside running I would hang out my window and cheer em on. We're doing it for you now and they'll be doing it there. Anyone who laughs at you is trying to keep you the way they are so they they dont have competition. Take their motherfricking soul. Youtube David Goggins and binge on his videos. You'll be tearing sheetmetal with your teeth after watching him.

I BELIEVE IN YOU BROTHER, You're doing it for you, not them! If you live your life dictated by what others think you will accomplish nothing. Forget the judgement, it's either feel slightly uncomfortable, or give up on your dreams of attaining a healthy figure, which isn't an option! You know what you have to do, and remember I believe in you and always will. Don't let me down!

And remember, every man has two lives, and the second begins when he realizes he has only one. You have realized you only have one, and this second life of yours is not dictated by others thoughts!

Walk in, go straight to a recumbent bike and start pedaling, keep pressing quick start until a timer shows up. Just keep pedaling until your anxiety runs out of steam. Also use this time to go over your plan for lifting. If a piece of equipment is occupied, just go to the next exercise in your workout.

Everyone is lost in their own bullshit, just go in and get after it. You got this

gym etiquette is really easy, give people space and wipe down your equipment, put things back where you got them. beyond that, just have fun. it is your time for self-care, as bullshit instagram as that sounds, it's true. you're gonna save your own life. you deserve it. take your goddamn time.

I would legit fast for the foreseeable future. Drink electrolytes. And just save a bunch of money while losing a bunch of weight. You could survive probably a year or more on your fat. The increased healing your body will do in a fasted state will allow your skin to not get too saggy as you lose the weight as well.

It's pretty different to talk here and actually experiencing going there no matter what advice you get, but it is true regardless, don't care what people think of you, stop caring about them, this is for you, not for them and it's part of the fight, real bros will root for you

You need to push thru the anxiety and go. If it makes you feel better go early in the morning when the gym is dead but that means getting up at 4 and getting after it.

  29. 1 year ago

I'm also a fatass that started lifting recently.
A good way how to start is to go in really early, right when it opens. The gyms tend to be empty at that time.
Also don't be afraid to just get on a treadmill and have a walk for 30 minutes, it's a good excercise you can't mess up.
Push yourself into it, it gets significantly easier next time.
